KERRVILLE/SEGUIN, Texas -- The UT Tyler women’s soccer team combined for eight goals –
scored by eight different players – in a pair of American Southwest Conference road
wins this weekend.
Packing a double-punch, the Patriot defense allowed just
nine total shots and only four shots-on-goal across the two shutout wins, while
the offense combined for 59 shots and 26 shots-on-goal in the two performances
that improved UT Tyler to 5-1 in ASC play.
On Friday, goals by Kristen Steele, Lindsey Edwards and
Julie Williams led the Patriots to a 3-0 win at Schreiner. All three goals came in the second half,
beginning with Steele’s unassisted score in the 51st minute. Megan
Vlam led all players with seven shots, followed by five from Emily Bechdol.
The offense continued to roll on Saturday, scoring a 5-0 win
over Texas Lutheran on the heels of a nine-shot, one-goal performance from
Charity Shipman. Besides Shipman,
Bechdol, Caitlin Cronan, Kayley Coggin and Meredith Krause all found the back
of the net for the Patriots.
Cronan, Coggin and Jordan Johnson also registered assists in
the win. Paige Harris made four saves in goal.
The Patriots will return home this week, hosting local foes
LeTourneau (Thurs.) and East Texas Baptist (Sat.).
