KERRVILLE, Texas -- The UT Tyler women's golf team won their first tournament of the spring, shooting a combined 676 (337-339) to win the Schreiner Spring Shootout at Comanche Trace this week. For her performance, Danica Weddle was named the ASC Golfer of the Week.
Weddle, a senior from Midland, Texas, led the Patriots with a second place finish individually, shooting a 16-over 160 (78-82) for the two rounds. Her first-round 78 was the day's lowest round.
As a team, UT Tyler edged second place UT Brownsville (682) by six strokes. Concordia finished third at 683. Schreiner (685) and Trinity (693) rounded out the women's top teams.
Individually, Katie Crawford shot a fifth place 167 (80-87) while Taylor Sloan fired a 179 (84-84) to finish ninth overall for UT Tyler.
Marina Rhodes also finished in the Top 25 for the Patriots with rounds of 93 and 89.
The UT Tyler women are off until March 16 when they travel to Jekyll Island, Ga. for the Oglethorpe-Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational.
