TYLER-- The #16 ranked UT Tyler baseball team moved its season record to 20-4 with a 6-3 win over Texas-Dallas on Friday night at Irwin Field. Senior David Ring went 4-4 with 3 RBI to lead the Patriots.
After falling behind 1-0 early, UT Tyler scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning to regain the lead.
Ring picked up his first hit and RBI on the night, knocking in Billy Lirely to tie the score at 1-1, while Aaron McCain gave the Patriots the lead with a RBI single of his own.
UT Tyler would add four more insurance runs in in three straight innings.
In the fourth, Ring picked up his second RBI on the night knocking in Lirely again to make the score 3-1, UT Tyler.
Freshman Garrett Machacek extended the lead to 4-1 in the fifth, driving in Jared Gobert with a RBI single to right field.
The Comets (12-9, 3-1) were able to get back in the game in the sixth, scoring two runs in the top half of the inning highlighted by two RBI singles by Micah Easterling and Zak Anderson.
UT Tyler answered in their half of the sixth, putting the game out of reach with two runs. Ring picked up his third RBI of the night with a double to left-center, while McCain added one more of his own with a single.
Patriots starter Jack Barkley picked up the win, improving his season record to 8-0.
McCain finished the night going 2 for 5 with two RBI's while Machacek finished added one hit and one RBI.
Derek Miller picked up the save on the night, his sixth of the season.
UT Tyler and UTD finish up their three-game series tomorrow with a double-header beginning at 1 pm at Irwin Field.
