MARSHALL, TEXAS -- The UT Tyler baseball team split a double-header in Marshall vs. ETBU on Saturday afternoon. The Patriots lost game one, 7-6, but came back in historic fashion, slugging out 30 runs in game two to win, 30-14. UT Tyler improved to 18-7 overall and 5-4 in American Southwest Conference.

In game one, the Patriots scored six runs off of seven hits, and recorded one error. The Tigers (7-15, 3-2) scored seven runs off of 11 hits and two errors to record the victory.

Brian Shore was the UT Tyler starter, pitching three and two-third innings and allowed seven runs off of 10 hits, and striking out four. Konrad Koenig relieved Shore, only allowing one run in two and one-third innings pitched.

The Patriots scored three in the third, one in the fifth, and two in the seventh in the seven inning game, but came up just short.

Hayden Chick was 2-for-4 with a home run. Chick also scored two runs. Issac Tijerina went for 2-for-2, walking twice.

The history mentioned was made in game two, as the Patriots broke the school record for runs scored with 30. The Previous record was 27, set last season vs. Jarvis Christian.

The Patriots recorded 46 at bats, scoring 30 runs off of 22 hits. Overall, the Patriots broke another school record, batting in 28 runners. The previous record was set by the 2008 squad who had 27 RBI's in a game also against ETBU.

After not scoring the first three innings, and getting behind 2-0, the Patriots exploded with six runs in the fourth, seven in the fifth, seven in the sixth, two in the seventh, and eight in the eighth.

In the fourth, Billy Lirely walked, TJ Martin singled, and Jake Ashley hit a 3-run home run to right field to give the Patriots the 3-2 edge early. 

After the Ashley home run, Aaron McCain doubled and scored when Garrett Machacek reached on an error. 

Chick then followed suit with a home run of his own, his second of the day as he hit one in game one. 

The Tigers scored three of their own in the fourth inning off of two hits and one Patriot error.

The Patriots then started the onslaught, scoring seven in the fifth. Jared Gobert started the inning with a hit by pitch. Lirely then doubled, as Gobert advanced to third. Issac Tijerina singled home Gobert. Ashley added two more RBI's on a ground out to first base that scored Lirely and Tijerina.

Martin, who had walked, scored when McCain reached on an error. Will Allen doubled to right field that scored three. 

After duplicating the seven runs again in the sixth, and scoring two in the seventh, the Patriots then busted out yet again in the eighth, scoring eight more.

Martin led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Ashley and McCain then walked. Jake Beam stepped up and slugged a grand slam home run to left field.

After the slam, Garrett Nelson singled and Zane Harber singled to left field, and after Gobert struck out, Lirely stepped up and hit another Patriot home run, this one a 2-run shot to center field. 

Steven Paramore walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch, and then scored on another Ashley RBI- this one a double to right field.

The Tigers got nothing in their portion of the eighth inning, and the game was ended after eight innings.

Michael Blevins was the Patriot starter, and went six complete innings, allowing six runs and 10 hit, while strkiing out five. 

Cody Jones and Matt Sheppard each threw one inning a piece. Jones allowed three runs off of two hits, strking out one, and walking one. Sheppard was perfect in the eighth inning.

The Patriots are now third in the ASC-East division with a record of 5-4, behind Texas- Dallas and Louisiana College.

UT Tyler will return home to Irwin Field this Friday, March 30, to begin a three game set against Ozarks. Game one is Friday night at 6 p.m.
