Baseball Takes Care of Ozarks, 12-2

TYLER -- The UT Tyler baseball team defeated the Ozarks, 12-2, on Friday night at Irwin Field. The Patriots improve to 19-7 on the season and to 6-4 in American Southwest Conference play.

The Patriots slugged 19 hits to score their 12 runs to the Ozarks two runs and seven hits.

Patriot starter Jack Barkley pitched eight complete innings and only allowed one run on five hits. Barkley also walked two and struck out three. Parker Sheets pitched then ninth inning, and gave up one run off of two hits. 

UT Tyler got the scoring started in the first inning. Aaron McCain led the game off with a hit by pitch, and reached second on a Garrett Machacek sacrifice bunt. McCain then scored when Will Allen singled through the middle for the RBI to put the Patriots on top, 1-0.

Hayden Chick, who reached by way of a walk, scored when TJ Martin walked with the bases loaded to add another run to the Patriots lead.

The Patriots did not score again until the fifth inning, when Issac Tijerina scored thanks to a Jake Ashley RBI- single to right field. At the end of five innings, the Patriots led 3-0.

UT Tyler then scored three more in the sixth thanks to Allen, who doubled scored Hayden Chick, who had also doubled. Allen then scored when Billy Lirely singled to third base. Ashley added another run with a sacrifice fly that scored Tijerina.

The Patriots then scored one more in the seventh, before the Eagles came back in the eighth inning to finally get on the board.

In the Patriot half of the inning, the Patriots exploded for five more runs. Martin started the inning with a walk, and then advanced to second on a passed ball. David Ring singled for the RBI to score Martin. 

McCain then doubled to bring home Ring and Ashley, who had reached on a walk. After Machacek singled, Chick stepped up and crushed a double to right field that score McCain. Machacek then scored when Josh Bates singled.

Allen went 4-for-6 with three RBI's and Issac Tijerina went 3-for-5 with two runs scored.

The Patriots continue their three- game series with the Ozarks on Saturday afternoon at Irwin Field with a doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m.
