LONGVIEW -- The UT Tyler men's and women's golf teams took part in the LeTourneau Spring Classic, with the men winning the tournament and the women finsihing second in the final tuneup before the American Southwest Conference Championships in two weeks.
For the men, the team win was the fifth on the season, out of nine tournaments played. The Patriots shot a 574 as a team, 12-strokes better than the second place team, Louisiana College.
Matt Stephens led UT Tyler, winning the individual championship by shooting a 3-under, 137 for the tournament. Stephens was the only player to shoot two rounds below 70, with a 68 and 69 respectively.
Trent Boudoin finished in third place overall, shooting a 144 for the tournament while teammate Jacob Walsh finished in fifth, shooting a 145.
The women's team finished second in the Classic, shooting a 629 as a team, five strokes behind first place finisher Texarkana Community College.
Katie Crawford finished fourth for the Patriots, shooting a 154 overall. Jordan Sloane and sister Taylor Sloane also finished in the top 10, shooting 158 and 160 for eighth and ninth place respectively.
Both UT Tyler golf teams will hit the course again, on April 16, at the American Southwest Conference Championships in Lufkin.
