LUFKIN -- The UT Tyler men's golf team won the 2012 American Southwest Conference Championship in record fashion, beating runner-up LeTourneau by 46 strokes to earn the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships.

The team win is the men's second title in three years. The Patriots are currently ranked No. 2 in the latest Golfstat national standings.

Senior Jacob Walsh led the way for the Patriots, shooting a 73 on day two, to help him hang-on to his day one lead to win the individual championship for the second-straight year.

Teammate John Dukes finished three strokes behind Walsh, finishing in second, while Trent Boudoin finished in third place, just five strokes off the lead.  Matt Stephens and Joey Rippel both finished in a tie for tenth place, both shooting 82 in the final round.

LeTourneau finished as runner-up in the team standings, shooting a combined 944 for the tournament, while Mary Hardin-Baylor placed third, with a 950.  Schreiner finished in fourth place, totalling a 966, while Texas-Dallas rounded out the top five, shooting a combined 974.

The Patriots now advance to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships, to be held May 15-18 at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
