TYLER -- The No. 18 UT Tyler baseball team capped off their regular season in style on Sunday afternoon at Irwin Field by defeating American Southwest Conference East division rival, Louisiana College, by a score of 11-6.

The Patriots end the regular season with an overall record of 31-9 and a 14-4 ASC record. The Wildcats end their regular season with a 14-22, 7-11 mark.

Coming into today, the Patriots were tied with Texas-Dallas in the ASC East division standings, and with UT Tyler defeating Louisiana College, and Texas-Dallas defeating East Texas Baptist in Marshall this afteroon, the Comets and the Patriots will share the ASC East Division title.

UT Tyler has now won six straight ASC East Division titles, and have won seven East titles in the last eight seasons.

In the Sunday matinee at Irwin Field against Louisiana College, the Patriots exploded for 11 runs off of 15 hits, and committed no errors. The Wildcats scored six times, having eight hits, and committing one error.

The Patriots got the scoring started early in the bottom of the first inning. Aaron McCain led off the inning by reaching on an error by Wildcat third baseman, Cary Myers.

McCain then reached second on a Hayden Chick single, advanced to third on a Issac Tijerina fly out, and then scored on an RBI-single by TJ Martin.

Will Allen then stepped up and belted a double that scored both Chick and Martin to make it 3-0 Patriots early on.

UT Tyler scored in the next two innings, scoring one in the second and two in the third to make it 6-0 heading into the fourth inning.

Patriot starter Chase Willard cruised through the first three innings, giving up no hits, but allowed Mike Doughty to double to record the Wildcats first hit of the game in the top of the fourth. Doughty then scored on an RBI-groundout by Myers.

After only giving up one run off of one hit through four innings, Willard struggled through the fifth inning, as the first two Wildcat hitters reached by way of a walk and a double, respectively. 

Darien Bartie hit an RBI-groundout to put the second run on the board for LC, and then the big hit came from Matt Scott, who hit a three-run home run to bring the score to 6-5 in the Patriots advantage.

Parker Sheets came in to relieve Willard, and got out of the jam by getting Doughty to fly out. Willard pitched four and two third innings, giving up five runs off of four hits, walking three and striking out three. Sheets registered the win, going an inning and a third, giving up one run off of two hits. 

UT Tyler responded in their half of the fifth inning, scoring three to push the score to 9-6. 

David Ring led the inning off with a walk and advanced to second base on a Jake Ashley sacrifice bunt. McCain then doubled down the left field line to score Ring. Chick then scored McCain with an RBI-single through the middle, and then scored when Tijerina singled through the left side. 

The Patriots added two more insurance runs in the seventh inning when McCain hit yet another double and scored on an RBI-double by Chick. Martin then drove home Chick with an RBI-double to left field. 

Jacob Yanker pitched the last three innings for the Patriots, only giving up a couple of hits and recording the save. 

McCain went 4-for-6 with three runs scored and two RBI's. Chick went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI's, and Martin went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI's. 

The ASC Championship First Round will begin next weekend as UT Tyler will be the No. 2 seed out of the East by virtue of Texas-Dallas winning the head-to-head matchup that was played earlier in the season.

The Patriots will host Hardin-Simmons in a best two out of three series next weekend at Irwin Field in Tyler.

Game one is set for Friday night at 6 p.m. and game two will be played on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Game three, if necessary, will be played approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game two.
