Softball Dominates LeTourneau in DH Sweep

TYLER-- The #5 ranked UT Tyler softball team swept a double-header with LeTourneau by the scores of 14-4 and 11-3 on Saturday afternoon at the UT Tyler Ballpark.  Junior Ashley Endsley finished the day with nine RBI and three homeruns.

In game one, the Patriots (13-3, 5-1) exploded for 14 runs on only nine hits.  In the first, Endsley hit her first homerun of the day, a three-run shot to left to highlight a four run first inning.

After Letourneau (9-9. 2-6) answered with two runs in the second, UT Tyler answered with four more runs in the bottom of the third inning.  Carli Wheeler had the big hit of the inning, knocking in two with a triple to left field, extending the lead to 8-2.

The Yellowjackets cut the lead in half with another two-run inning in the fourth, but the Patriots put the game away in the bottom of the fifth with six runs.

Endsley notched her second homerun of the game with another three-run blast, ending the game by the run-rule.

In game two, the Patriots exploded for six runs in the second inning, highlighted by Endsley's third homerun of the day, another three run job to make the score 7-0 early.

UT Tyler added one more run in the third on a solo homerun by Wheeler, her first of the season.  In the fifth, Taylor Sells walked with the bases loaded, extending the Patriots lead to 9-3.  

In the sixth, the Patriots added two more runs, halting the game one inning early.  Lauren Robenalt singled in Amanda Lopez while Katelyn Thomason knocked in a run with a fielder's choice, scoring Wheeler.

Endsley ended her stellar day going 3-5 with three runs and nine RBI while Wheeler added four hits and four runs.

Heather Abshire picked up the win in game one, improving her season record to 6-1 while Thomason picked up her fifth win on the season.  

The Patriots hit the road for the next six games, starting with Centenary, March 21 in Shreveport.
