Whitney Wyly

Whitney Wyly enters her twelfth season on the UT Tyler softball staff in 2022-2023 after helping lead the Patriots to their second consecutive Lone Star Conference Regular Season Championship.

During Wyly’s time as assistant coach, the Patriots have captured a 352-136 record taking seven Conference regular season titles, four Conference Tournament Championships, and advancing to seven straight NCAA Regionals.

In 2017, Wyly was promoted to Associate Head Coach. In her 12 seasons assisting the Patriots, Wyly has helped coach the Patriots to a total of five NCAA Division III National Tournament appearances, including winning the 2016 National Championship title with a 49-5 overall record and the national runner up finish in 2015 with a 50-5 record.

The Patriots have finished all seven seasons eligible in the final NFCA national rankings. Four of those seasons finishing with a final ranking of third or higher (2013-3rd, 2015-2nd, 2016-1st, 2017-2nd).

Since the addition of Wyly to the Patriots staff, the program has seen 75 All Conference selections, 43 All Regional selections, and 21 All American honorees. The UT Tyler Patriot staff has been honored as Conference Staff of the year six of the last seven seasons, receiving Regional Coaching Staff of the Year four times, and the National Coaching Staff of the Year in 2016.

Along with her responsibilities as recruiting coordinator, she has been responsible for a variety of position instruction, as well as assisting in hitting. She worked primarily with the outfielders and catchers from 2013-19. Wyly has coached four first team All-American outfielders in her 12 seasons as a coach as well as 3 first team All-American catchers all garnering the award of National Catcher of the Year in their respective years.

An All-American player at UT Tyler, Wyly also played three seasons for Coach Reed and the Patriots' softball program after transferring from The University of Texas at San Antonio. While at UTSA, Wyly finished fourth on the team in homeruns (5), while starting 34 games for the Roadrunners as a true freshman.

Wyly is one of the most decorated players in the history of the UT Tyler program.  In her three seasons at UT Tyler, she compiled a career batting average of .375 while slugging 40 home runs and collecting 193 RBIs.

She ranks first in several categories in the UT Tyler softball record books- home runs (40), RBIs (193), sacrifice flies (14), double plays turned (21) and second all-time in total bases (355).  She also ranks in the top-five all-time in slugging percentage (.711), games started (148), at-bats (499) and runs scored with 121. Wyly currently holds the American Southwest Conference season records for grand slams (3), total bases (136), and RBIs (76).

She received All-American honors in 2009 and 2010, while helping the Patriots to NCAA tournament appearances each season she was a player.

Wyly also played on the 2009 and 2011 squads that made the NCAA DIII National Tournament.
