Maggie Williams Koehn is starting her seventh season as the UT Tyler Head Spirit Squad coach during the 2022-23 school year, leading a group which includes Dance, Mascot, STUNT and the Cheer team.
A Tyler, Texas native, Koehn is a Baylor University graduate, where she was on the Baylor co-ed cheer team for four years. She served as a team captain on the cheer team and graduated with a degree in studio art – graphic design. She also earned a Master of Science in College Student Personnel from Arkansas Tech University, and she is currently pursuing her Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership in Higher Education through Abilene Christian University.
While pursuing her master's degree, Koehn served as the head cheer coach at Arkansas Tech.
Koehn grew up dancing at Dance-N-Drill and danced and cheered for 12 years before transitioning into competitive cheer at Spirit of Tyler in high school, which is where she ultimately fell in love with cheering.
She cheered professionally for three years for the Houston Rockets and one year for the Indianapolis Colts. Her teaching experience spans over 15 years combined and includes high school cheer, All Star Cheer, dance, tumbling and fitness classes. She and her husband also own a cheer and tumbling gym in Tyler called Flyer Athletics.
Koehn serves as the interim director of external operations and relationship for Patriot Athletics, and she also serves as advisor for UT Tyler's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as well as the Greek sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha.
Academically, Koehn has trained and presented on leadership on multiple occasions at schools throughout East and Central Texas, and she was a co-presenter with Dr. Colleen Marzilli at the 2019 East Texas Leadership Summit. She additionally has worked with associate dean of students Kim Harvey-Livingston to create a curriculum for freshman student-athletes focused on leadership skills and coordination with a mentorship program.
