Patriot Soccer Heads West for a Weekend in Abilene

9/26/2018 2:47:00 PM

TYLER, Texas - The UT Tyler men's and women's soccer teams will hit the road this week and head on I-20 out to Abilene for a doubleheader against the McMurry War Hawks on Thursday. The women are scheduled for 5 p.m. while the men will play at 7:30.

Women's Soccer
The Patriot women's team bounced back nicely from their first loss of the season with a tie against Mary-Hardin Baylor and a 3-1 over Concordia in pouring rain. The Patriots are 3-0 all-time against the War Hawks and have never conceded a goal.

In their first match in 2015, UT Tyler put up a 10-0 victory. UT Tyler goes into the match 5-1-1 on the year and are 2-1-1 against ASC opponents. They are led by Kaelyn Steitz who has recorded five goals this season with no other Patriot having scored more than twice.

McMurry comes into the game 2-6 on the season and are riding a four game losing streak.

Men's Soccer
The men's team is also having a solid start to their season at 6-1-1 overall. The Patriots are currently on a seven game unbeaten streak which started with six straight wins before a tie against Concordia on Saturday.

The last two meetings against the War Hawks have been nail biters. Last season the two teams played a scoreless tie and in 2016 Mcmurry squeaked out a 1-0 victory. UT Tyler's last win against the comets came in 2015 when they won 6-0. The Patriots are led by Lucas Pereira with six goals on the season. Mark Guevara has been a solid passer for UT Tyler with three assists this year.

McMurry has a record of 2-2-3 in 2018, but have been on the tough end of a lot of close games. Five of their seven games this season have been decided by one goal or less.

After the games on Thursday, both the women's and men's teams stay in Abilene for a Saturday doubleheader against Hardin-Simmons. Those kickoffs are set for 2 p.m. and 4:30, respectively
