GEORGETOWN, Texas - The UT Tyler Women's Soccer played the first of two weekend games on Friday night in Georgetown. The Patriots took on Southwestern, defeating the Pirates 2-1 in double-overtime.
Kaelyn Steitz put UT Tyler ahead early with a goal in the 12th minute. Steitz ripped a shot from outside the box to net her third goal of the season.
The Pirates answered back in the 27th minute, tying the game at one.
The lead would hold through the remainder of the first half and the entire second half.
Neither team would net a goal in the first overtime period, leading to one final 10 minute overtime period.
Just 40 seconds into the second overtime,
Linda Ennis netted her first goal of the season and the game-winner for UT Tyler. Ennis' goal came off an assist from
Kelsy Haden.
With the win, UT Tyler moves to 3-0 on the season. The Patriots will take on Trinity on Sunday, September 9. The game in San Antonio is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
