Patriots Fall To UT Permian Basin

UT Tyler generated more shots than UT Permian Basin but dropped a 3-0 decision Sunday in Odessa

ODESSA, Texas – Despite generating a 14-11 shots advantage in Sunday's visit to UT Permian Basin, the UT Tyler men's soccer team gave up a pair of first-half goals in a 3-0 defeat.
 
Travis Collins led all players with four shots on the day, and Parker O'Quinn made four saves, as the Patriots dropped to 6-5-2 overall and 1-3-2 in the Lone Star Conference.  UT Permian Basin improved to 5-8-1 overall and 2-4 in LSC play to move ahead of the Patriots in the conference standings.
 
How It Happened: UT Permian Basin scored a pair of first-half goals just over five minutes apart, turning a scoreless duel into a 2-0 halftime edge.  John Karlsen scored on a free kick in the 30th minute, and a long throw in led to another goal in the 35th minute as Sergio Gonzalez finished the flick back from Stefan Faria to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead.
 
Karlsen nearly added another goal in the first half with a shot off the crossbar in the 38th minute, but Kasper Wallstroem provided the final 3-0 margin with a finish of a Sergio Gonzalez assist in the 83rd minute.
 
By The Numbers: The teams produced five shots each in the first half before UT Tyler generated a 9-6 edge after halftime… The Patriots also held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks… Travis Collins led all players with four shots, putting two on goal, and Michael Agyeman also registered a pair of shots on goal for UT Tyler… Nine different players on each team registered a shot… UT Permian Basin goalkeeper Alfonso Aragon made six saves to post his third shutout of the season for the Falcons.
 
What's Next: UT Tyler is home for three of its final four games, starting with a pair of Lone Star Conference matchups at home this week against St. Edward's (Oct. 31) and DBU (Nov. 2).
