EDMOND, Okla. -- UT Tyler's eight-game winning streak ended with an 11-10 defeat at Oklahoma Christian Monday afternoon, as the Eagles rallied from a 10-5 deficit with six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to narrowly avoid suffering a four-game series sweep to the Patriots.
With Monday's 10-run performance, UT Tyler scored at least 10 runs in all four games of the series, scoring 47 runs in 32 innings over the course of the series, and the Patriots have won all four series to start its first season as a member of the Lone Star Conference.
Lukas Polanco went 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs to lead the offense, including a three-run home run into the wind to left field in the top of the fourth inning to give the Patriots an 8-2 lead. However, Oklahoma Christian produced 11 runs on 20 hits and scored three runs each off UT Tyler relievers Max Page and Matthew McMillan in the bottom of the eighth to rally for the win.
With the defeat, UT Tyler drops to 12-2 overall and in the Lone Star Conference standings. The Patriots, who entered the Collegiate Baseball Division II coaches poll earlier today at No. 21, are now tied for second place in the conference standings with West Texas A&M, trailing unbeaten Angelo State (14-0) by a two-game margin. Oklahoma Christian is now 4-10 on the year.
How It Happened: The Patriots pushed four runs across in the first inning and added four more in the fourth to take an early 8-2 lead. Oklahoma Christian got two runs back in the fifth on Coleton Hinkle's two-out, two-run single, and the Eagles plated another two-out run in the sixth to cut the lead to 8-5. Tanner Roach and Bowie Farris each drove in a run in the top of the seventh, extending the lead to 10-5 with two innings to go.
The Eagles produced three consecutive singles to spark the eighth-inning comeback, and Hinkle provided a game-tying three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth before Jayvien Joseph drove in the game-winning run with a one-out RBI single.
