PUEBLO, COLO. – The UT Tyler men's golf team stayed put in ninth place in the 19-team field with a final round team score of 290 at the Farmer Insurance Samuel Proal Invitational in Pueblo, Colo. on Tuesday morning.
Sophomore
Jackson Powers finished in a tie for sixth place individually after a final round 67 jumped the Mansfield, Texas product up 23 spots on the individual leaderboard. Powers made five birdies and a bogey on Tuesday morning to finish with a 36-hole total of 168 (71-67) for the event.
Powers was one of 22 players to finish under par in the 100-man field at Pueblo Country Club. Oklahoma Christian finished 17-under par for the tournament with rounds of 274-277 to claim the team crown by eight strokes over Midwestern State. The Eagle's Alejandro Armijo claimed the individual title with rounds of 68-66 for an eight-under total of 134.
The Patriots remained steady in ninth place after rounds of 287-290 in a field loaded with South Central and West Region powerhouses.
Sophomore
Carter Lewis shot the second-best round of the day for the Patriots behind Powers, making four birdies in route to a two-over round of 73. Classmate
Garrett Honeycutt followed up his first round 70 with a final round 76 on Tuesday to finish four-over par for the tournament and in a tie for 41
st place at 146 (70-76).
Freshman
Francesco Abba posted his second straight 74 of the tournament on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 56
th place with a 148 total for the event. Sophomore
Jackson Naeger rounded out the Patriot finishers for the tournament, carding a final round 76 to finish in a tie for 56
th place alongside Abba with a 148 (72-76) total.
UT Tyler defeated three Lone Star Conference teams in the event, and collected a host of South Central/West region head-to-head wins in the process.
UT Tyler will be back in action next week at the Midwestern State Invitational at Wichita Falls Country Club on Oct. 11-12.
