AMARILLO, TEXAS.- The UT Tyler women's golf team shot a team total of 293 on Tuesday morning to finish with the second lowest 36-hole total in program history and a tie for third place finish at the West Texas A&M Fall Invitational.
The 589 (296-293) total tied the Patriots with Angelo State for third place on the team leaderboard, just four strokes back of first place #14 Texas A&M-Commerce. Junior
Kaitlyn Charles etched her name in the UT Tyler women's golf record books, firing the second lowest individual 36-hole total in school history with a final round 71 to finish at 143 (72-71) and in a tie for second place on the individual leaderboard.
The 143 total for Charles is second on the all-time low 36-hole total list behind only Laura Lindsey, who posted a 134 back in 2014-15 at the Paris CC Women's Fall Invite. The 589 team score for the Patriots at the West Texas A&M Fall Invitational sits just one stroke shy of the school 36-hole total record, posted in that same Paris CC Women's Fall Invite back in 2014-15.
UT Tyler finished four strokes shy of the team crown and a single stroke back of second place #17 West Texas A&M, who bettered the Patriots with a final round 292 on Tuesday to finish at 588 (296-292). West Texas A&M's Alyssa Campbell held on to win the individual crown, posting a one-under 141 (65-76) for the event.
Charles finished in a tie for second with Angelo State's Maria Sierra Sanz at 143, carding an even-par round of 71 in the final round on Tuesday morning. The junior made three birdies and three bogeys throughout her round, and finished second in the field with seven total birdies throughout the tournament.
Sophomore
Julia Kerrigan matched the low round of the field on Tuesday for the Patriots with a one-under 70, combining a back nine 34 with a front nine 36 to vault up the individual leaderboard into a tie for fifth place at 145 (75-70) for the event. The 71 from Charles and 70 from Kerrigan on Tuesday was combined with a 75 from senior
Raelynn Hardgrave and a 77 from
Zoe Mayfield for the four counting scores for the team.
Hardgrave's final round 75 placed her in a tie for 12
th on the individual leaderboard with a 146 (74-75) total. Mayfield recorded yet another top 25 finish in the event, tying for 25
th place with a 152 (75-77).
Freshman
Brooke Wagner rounded out the Patriot scoring team with a 155 (78-77) for the tournament, placing in a tie for 36
th place. UT Tyler's
Lauren Christl shot a final round 82 to finish in a tie for 47th with a 161 (79-82) total.
The third-place finish is the second top three finish for the Patriots this fall after a second place showing at The Swan Memorial back on Sept. 13-14. UT Tyler defeated six Lone Star Conference teams, including #24 Oklahoma Christian, as well as an additional two teams from the South Central Region in Regis and Adams State.
The final tournament of the fall semester for the Patriots will be an exciting one as the team travels to Kohala Coast, Hawaii to compete in the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate at the Hapuna Beach Resort on Oct. 25-27.
