LAWTON, OKLA. – #18 UT Tyler made it 22 straight wins and six straight 3-0 Lone Star Conference sweeps with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-19) win over Cameron on Friday night in Lawton, Okla.
The Patriots kicked off their second LSC road trip of the season in the same fashion as the last five contests entering the weekend with a convincing 3-0 victory in which UT Tyler trailed just once after the early stages of the second set. UT Tyler limited the Aggies to a .054 team hitting percentage, the second lowest mark of the 2021 season for a Patriot opponent, and put down 10 or more kills in each of the three sets to move to a perfect 11-0 on the year.
The seventh straight win of the conference schedule for the Patriots marks the the eighth 3-0 sweep of the year for the squad.
UT Tyler forced Cameron into 11 attacking errors in the opening frame, pulling away in a set that was tied at the 14-14 mark. The costly errors for Cameron allowed the Patriots to pad 17-14 and then 22-18 leads in the 25-21 set victory.
The second set was all Patriots as UT Tyler jumped out to a 15-7 lead and hit .314 throughout the frame. The Patriots put down kills in 15 of their 35 swings, and committed a set-low four errors as a unit.
The 15-7 lead turned into a 23-9 advantage for the Patriots before Cameron finally reached the double-digit point mark at the 23-10 point total.
UT Tyler scored the first nine points of the third set and momentarily conceded the momentum to the Aggies with a six-point run for Cameron before five unanswered Patriot points drew the lead back out to 18-11. Cameron once again threatened to draw the set to an even score in the late stages with a five-point run, but couldn't manage to find themselves back in the set, falling by a 25-19 final tally.
Sophomore
Evelyn Torres had nine kills to lead the Patriots in a relatively quiet night for the UT Tyler offense.
Hannah Callison and
Christina Escamilla each had seven kills in the effort as the Patriots hit just .154 as a unit.
Senior
Mikayla Ware and junior
Savannah Guzman had 17 and 16 digs respectively as the Aggies simply had no solution to the Patriot defense that totaled 55 digs on the night. Freshman
Addison Evans also had a solid night with nine digs of her own.
Setters
Callie Crause and
Taylor Stoops continued to operate the offense with ease, totaling 16 and 13 assists.
UT Tyler will look to continue their unbeaten streak tomorrow afternoon with a match against Midwestern State at 12 p.m.
