Colbert's Hat Trick Highlights Wild 5-4 Overtime Loss Against #21 West Texas A&M

Jordan Colbert scored two second half penalty kicks, the second of which came with just over one minute remaining to force overtime against #21 West Texas A&M

TYLER, TEXAS – The University of Texas at Tyler women's soccer team did not make it easy for #21 West Texas A&M in a wild 5-4 overtime loss for the Patriots.

Sophomore Jordan Colbert scored her first career hat trick in a game that featured three lead changes, three penalty kicks and a game that was at one point a 4-1 lead in favor of West Texas A&M at the halftime break. Colbert added two penalty kick goals in the second half to provide two of the three second half goals for the Patriots to come back from that 4-1 deficit, forcing overtime against the nationally-ranked Lady Buffs with the score knotted at 4-4.

The third and final goal from Colbert came with just over a minute's time remaining on the clock by way of her second penalty kick goal of the half to send the match into extra time. Freshman Faith Adje added the second of three unanswered second half goals for UT Tyler in the 78th minute.

Colbert got the first of what would end up being nine goals scored in the match between the two teams off of a Brooklyn Robinson set piece just over two minutes into the match. Robinson's cross found Colbert in the box at the 2:24 mark of the opening half, and opened up the 1-0 lead for UT Tyler.

The Lady Buff's offense answered with two goals in less than a minute's span in the eighth and ninth minute, and then tacked on two more goals before the end of the opening 45 minutes of play. The two early goals for the Lady Buffs provided the second and third goals of the first 10 minutes of the match.

West Texas A&M's third and fourth goals of the first half came in the 16th and 38th minute before the Patriots switched gears and permanently found themselves on the attack in the second half trailing 4-1.

Colbert began the Patriot comeback in the 58th minute with her first penalty kick goal of the half to cut into the Lady Buff's lead at 4-2. Adje scored her third goal of 2021 in the 78th minute on a beautiful through ball from junior Jullia Trabach to make it just a one score game.

Freshman Vanessa Bart collided with West Texas A&M keeper Reagan Heelan inside the penalty box to draw the foul that set up the equalizing penalty kick for Colbert at the 88:52 mark. The sophomore from Allen, Texas converted on the golden opportunity to send the match into extra time.

West Texas A&M ended the match with a golden goal at the 99:23 mark with less than a minute remaining in the first overtime period to escape Tyler with the win. Both teams combined for five shots in what was an action-packed overtime period.

The two sides combined for 46 shots throughout the match, 25 from West Texas A&M and 21 for UT Tyler, while the Patriots held the advantage with 10 shot on goal attempts.

UT Tyler will be half a light week of action as they are scheduled for just a single match, a Saturday road contest at Lubbock Christian on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
