TYLER, TEXAS – The University of Texas at Tyler men's soccer team outshot their opponent for the third straight contest in a 1-1 tie at UT Permian Basin on Saturday night.
UT Tyler totaled 22 shots, the highest single-game total for the program in Lone Star Conference play in the team's first two seasons competing in the league, and earned their first points of the abbreviated 2021 season with a 1-1 draw at the end of two overtime periods. The result gives the Patriots their first points of the spring semester as their record now sits at 0-1-1 in conference play.
UT Tyler has now outshot their opposition in all three matches to open up the year, and ranks second in the Lone Star Conference with an averaged of 14.33 shots per game.
Ramiro Alvarez scored an unassisted goal in the 48
th minute to notch the game up at 1-1 coming out of the halftime break, a tally which would hold steady all the way through the remainder of the match.
Alvarez led the Patriots with six total shot attempts, two of which were on target including the aforementioned equalizer, to lead four Patriots with two or more shots for the game. UT Permian Basin broke the scoreless tie in the 25
th minute, but totaled just two shots on goal for the entire 110:00 minutes of play.
Sergio Sola had four shots on target, totaling five attempts for the match, as UT Tyler consistently found ways to generate chances throughout the match. Two of those attempts on target came in the final five minutes of play in the second overtime period.
Michael Agyeman had four total shots and joined
Shane Popieluch with two shot on goal attempts.
UT Tyler will head to Oklahoma Christian for a 4 p.m. match in Edmond, Okla, on Mar. 2 for their next contest of the 2021 conference schedule.
