#25 UT Tyler Suffers First Road LSC Loss in Series Opener Against UT Permian Basin

MIDLAND, TEXAS - #25 UT Tyler lost their first Lone Star Conference road game of the 2021 season by a 15-5 final score in eight innings to UT Permian Basin in Midland, Texas on Friday night.

A depleted Patriot pitching staff that is missing valuable arms was knocked around for 15 earned runs on 13 hits by the Falcons in the first of three games at Momentum Bank Ballpark in Midland, Texas. The loss snaps a seven-game road winning streak for UT Tyler in Lone Star Conference play.

Jordan Gochenour led the way offensively for the Patriots, totaling three hits in his four trips to the plate. Kyler Bumstead led the way with a pair of RBI for UT Tyler on a night in which the club scored five runs on seven hits.

UT Permian Basin struck for six runs in the bottom of the first and tacked on two more in the second to build an 8-0 lead after two innings of play in Friday's series opener between the two Lone Star Conference foes. Bumstead was able to put the first runs on the board for the Patriots in the top of the fourth with a two-out RBI single through the left side that scored both Lukas Polanco and Gochenour.

Cade Watson continued that two-out rally with a double to left that scored Bumstead all the way from first to narrow the scoring gap to 8-3 heading into the bottom half of the fourth. Gochenour posted the third straight RBI for the Patriots with two outs on the board in the top of the fifth to continue the comeback effort by scoring Tanner Roach.

Five runs in the bottom half of that fifth frame effectively ended the chance at a Patriot comeback.

The Patriots will look to bounce back tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. and give themselves a chance to still win the series against UT Permian Basin with a win.
