WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's soccer represented themselves well in the program's first Division II postseason appearance in the 2021 Spring Lone Star Conference Women's Soccer Championship in a 2-1 loss to no. 5 seed Midwestern State.
The loss concludes a shortened spring schedule for the Patriots, who earned the no. 5 seed in Division I in the programs first qualification for the LSC Postseason Tournament. The Patriots scored on a corner attempt that was knocked in the Mustangs goal by
Landri Edwards in the 27
th minute to even the game up at 1-1 heading into the halftime break.
The Edwards goal, her first of the season, answered a Mustang goal just four minutes prior to break the scoreless tie. Midwestern State netted the game-winning goal nine minutes into the second half to advance into the quarterfinals.
That goal was the difference in an otherwise tightly contested effort for both sides, as Midwestern State held the narrow 7-to-5 advantage in shot on goal attempts. Keeper
Camri Cecil made saves on three of those Mustang attempts in her 90 minutes in net while five different Patriots recorded shot on goal efforts in the match.
UT Tyler concludes their spring 2021 schedule with a record of 2-7 and will now shift their attention to their traditional fall championship schedule later this year as hopeful full-fledged Division II members.
