Patriots Strong Opening Half Not Enough for Upset Over #12 DBU

UT Tyler held a 0-0 tie with #12 DBU into the halftime break, but three second half goals for the nationally-ranked squad ended the upset bid

TYLER, TEXAS – Three second half goals put an end to UT Tyler's upset bid over #12 DBU on Wednesday night at the Citizen's 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

DBU opened up a 0-0 game at the halftime break with a pair of goals within the first 10 minutes of the second half and tacked on one more in the 76th minute to bring the match to it's 3-0 final tally. UT Tyler totaled four shots in the contest, all four of which made their way on goal.

Freshman Reagan Easter had the first quality opportunity for the Patriots in the 30th minute on a set piece for UT Tyler that was crossed into the box by Brooklyn Robinson. Easter got a head on it in front of the net, but placed her shot right at DBU keeper Abigail Olmos.

Easter's header answered a pair of shot on goal attempts by DBU, both of which were stopped by Patriot keeper Victoria Turner. Turner kept the scoreless tie in-tact for the Patriots with less than three minutes remaining in the half on a spectacular diving save to keep a DBU shot from just outside the box out of the net.

DBU finally found a way past Turner in the early stages of the second half with two quick goals, and then answered the lone two second half challenges by the Patriots just before the 70th minute. Sophomore Sarah Flannelly put the first shot on goal attempt on net for the Patriots in the second half off on a set piece that was tipped away at the last second by Olmos.

Sophomore Bruna Pereira put the second shot on net in a matter of two minutes just a few moments later, but that test was also answered by Olmos. The next shot on goal for either team would be a Michelle Gonzalez's goal in the 76th minute for DBU, effectively putting the game out of reach for UT Tyler.

DBU posted 19 shots for the game, nine of which were on goal. Turner ended the night with six saves, a career best in her first start of the season.

UT Tyler will travel to Odessa, Texas for their second game of the week on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m against UT Permian Basin.
