Eydal, Sola Score as UT Tyler Grabs First Win of 2021 Campaign

UT Tyler scored three first half goals and dominated the second half of play in route to a 3-0 victory in their home opener.

TYLER, TEXAS - The UT Tyler men's soccer program started off their home schedule on the right foot with a 3-0 victory over Texas College on Wednesday night.

The Patriots scored a trio of first half goals, two of which came from junior Sergio Sola, to open up a 3-0 lead at the halftime break. Those three goals and continued pressure in the second half from UT Tyler gave Texas College no chance to mount a comeback.

Five different Patriots were able to notch a point in the first half.

Junior Birkir Eydal got things going in the 8th minute with a nicely played shot off of his right foot that found the back of the net to begin the Patriot onslaught of offense in the opening half. Eydal turned a fantastic pass from junior forward Malte Andres that came right across the box before it was slotted home just past the left post.

The man of the match, however, was none other than Sola who after tallying an assist in the first game of the season in Saturday's 1-1 tie against Oklahoma Christian, found his way into the goals category with two in Wednesday's match.

His first goal came by way of a penalty kick after being dragged down in the box, and was given the opportunity to convert from the penalty spot. It was a well-placed shot in the top right corner, and the Patriots led 2-0 after just 21 minutes of action.

Sola would strike gold just four minutes later as he corralled a free kick in the box that was headed down by Thierry Assamoi. Assamoi headed down a free kick from freshman Bryan Rivas-Guzman and allowed Sola the opportunity for the third and final goal of the match.

With Eydal and Sola taking care of business in the first half, the Patriots controlled possession thoroughly in the second 45 minutes of action. UT Tyler enjoyed a 17-6 shots advantage throughout the game, and only one of those found its way on goal for Texas College.

The Patriots continued to push the pace as the game wore on, taking all nine second half shots within the final 20 minutes of the contest. It was a strong showing for the program as they stay undefeated on the season.

Sola led the way on the evening for UT Tyler with four shots, three of which made their way on goal. Andres, Assamoi and Rivas-Guzman were all credited with an assist for their efforts in the Sola and Eydal first-half goals.

Coming up next for the Patriots will be another game at Citizens 1st Bank- Perkins Soccer Complex against DBU on Wednesday, September 15th at 7 p.m. This will be the final contest before taking on a pair of crucial road games against Rogers State and St. Mary's.
