A LOOK BACK

Last Saturday saw the Patriots hit the road for a contest against #16 Oklahoma Christian. The Patriots battled tightly, but it was the Eagles who were able to pull away with a 3-1 victory over UT Tyler. The three goals allowed were the most in a game against the stout UT Tyler defense this season, and the Eagles defense held the Patriots under season averages on offense to keep the Patriots out of the game.

WHAT COACH JONES IS SAYING

On the results through the first three LSC games: "We have played three very strong teams and just haven't gotten the results. We're playing to win but we were just on the wrong side of it the last couple of games. We have six games left and there's a lot of points left."

On Wednesday's game against Midwestern State: "It's a difficult part of the season. Everyone has someone injured and there are some question marks about their teams. We are going to evaluate going in what is a good game plan for us and what we need to do to have some success."

On what he is telling the team after a tough start: "We are only three games in and there are six games left. There are still 18 points up for grabs. We're going to do everything we can, and part of that is making sure everyone is as fit as possible and recovered as possible. We want to make sure we are focusing on the right things and don't let other things get in the way of what is really important."

REGIONAL RANKINGS

The Patriots slipped one spot this week in the United Soccer Coaches South Central Region Rankings after a tough 0-2 week last week. Four Lone Star Conference teams and four Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams make up the eight teams ahead of the Patriots in the standings.

SERIES HISTORY

The Mustangs and Patriots have met four times in their series history and all four of those meetings have come within the previous four years. #18 Midwestern State holds the series advantage at 4-0 and has allowed just two goals to UT Tyler all time. In their previous matchup on October 20, 2021, the Patriots dropped the game 4-2 but held a 2-1 advantage with just 15 minutes remaining. Wednesday night's contest is just the second to take place in Tyler all-time and will be a key matchup for both programs as they look to take a step up in LSC play.

Individually, the Mustangs have four players with multiple goals, and Mere Escobar leads the way with five. Three players also have tallied multiple assists, and Rory Doyle leads the way there with five of his own.

Meachum is the reigning Lone Star Conference Coach of the year after going 16-3-1 in the 2021 season and leading the Mustangs to the regular season and postseason conference titles. The Mustangs were able to make the NCAA tournament last season but fell in the second round to Cal Poly Pomona.

NEXT ON THE SLATE

Next up for UT Tyler will be a quick road trip out to Lubbock, Texas to take on Lubbock Christian on Saturday, October 15 at 3:30 p.m. It will be a one game road trip as the Patriots will return to Tyler to host Eastern New Mexico on October 19th for Pink Week. That game will be followed by another home game as Texas A&M International also makes a trip to Tyler for the annual Patriots Blue Out game and Alumni Day.
