TYLER, TEXAS – DBU punched in the only goal of the night on Saturday in the 84
th minute to earn a 1-0 victory and spoil the final home game of the season for UT Tyler men's soccer.
The two teams would combine for just 7 shots in the first half as both teams battled through a rain-soaked pitch. Both keepers would not allow a goal for the first 45 minutes as the chances for either side did not have much on them.
For DBU, their primary chances came within the first 25 minutes of play as Ethan Unger and Gavyn Rosales each took shots on goal, but
Asier Vegas was there to make quality stops.
The Patriots had their best chance of the first half in the 42
nd minute as senior
Gerardo Ramirez struck a beauty from a set piece but Alexander Knepper made a great save to deny the goal.
The second half saw the shots tick up, but the shot quality drop, as the teams combined for 12 shots but only four would go on goal.
Mathias Eriksen would step into goal in the second half and pick up a great save just nine minutes in and then follow that up with another great save in the 71
st minute.
The best chance of the second half for UT Tyler came in the 73
rd minute as
Nolan Giles was streaking forward to collect a beautiful pass from teammate
Thato Meko. Giles ran in towards the net, but the DBU keeper held strong and denied Giles the goal.
The lone goal came in the 84
th minute as DBU capitalized on a Patriots turnover. The ball was swung out wide to Bruno Correa, who then looped in a cross to Peyton Voelker who struck it home.
The 1-0 victory will secure a 2
nd seed in the Lone Star Conference tournament for DBU, and the loss will signal the end of a 7-6-3 (2-5-2 LSC) season for UT Tyler.
