GLEN ROSE, TEXAS – The UT Tyler women's golf team sits seventh on the team leaderboard following rounds of 290-298 on day one of the 2022 Lone Star Conference Women's Golf Championships.
The Patriots completed day one 12-over par as a team at Glen Rose Golf Club's Apache Links course, and will enter the final round of the 54-hole stroke play portion of the tournament 10 strokes back of fourth place. The top four teams on the team leaderboard following the stroke play competition will advance to the team medal match play bracket of the event to determine the 2022 Lone Star Conference Champion.
UT Tyler posted a season-best 290 in round one, which stands as the second lowest team score in program history, bettered only by a 288 shot by the team during the 2014-15 season at the Paris CC Women's Fall Invite. Freshman
Brooke Wagner posted rounds of 73-72 on Thursday for a 145 total, and sits in a tie for 16
th place on the individual leaderboard.
Senior
Zoe Mayfield turned her day around with a three-under par round of 69 in the afternoon second round, helping lead the Patriots to a 298. Mayfield joined Wagner after two rounds within the top 25 of the individual leaderboard, posting a 147 total.
#1 DBU sits 13 strokes clear of the field after a 25-under par total of 551 (273-278) on day one, and were paced by Faith DeLaGarza, who sits atop the individual leaderboard with a 10-under par total of 134 (70-64). West Texas A&M (564), St. Mary's (577) and Oklahoma Christian (578) all sit within the top four spots on the leaderboard heading into Friday morning's final round.
Sophomore
Julia Kerrigan posted an under-par round of 70 in her morning round, and turned in an afternoon total of 78 for a 148 and a tie for 29
th place standing. Junior
Kaitlyn Charles posted rounds of 72-79 for a 151 total and a tie for 35
th place positioning, and senior
Raelynn Hardgrave a 161 (75-86) for a tie for 66
th place.
UT Tyler will need to make up the 10 strokes tomorrow morning if they hope to advance to the afternoon medal match plays semifinals. The championship match between the winner of those two matches will take place on Saturday morning.
Tomorrow's third and final round is set for an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
