ROSTER SCHEDULE STATS

A BIG START

The UT Tyler men's soccer program got off to a huge start on Saturday night, beating Texas College by a score of 6-0. That was the most goals scored in a game for the Patriots since 2019, and the largest margin of victory since 2019. That win puts UT Tyler ahead 5-1 all time in the series.

NEWCOMERS GOING TO WORK

The Patriots had 11 total goals (6) and assists (5), and all but one of those came from a newcomer to the program. It was the first wave of substitutions that went to work for UT Tyler, and that effort was spearheaded by Nolan Giles and Lukas Paulun. Giles had a five point night after two goals and an assist, and Paulun posted two goals of his own. Ralph Mangondoza and Rodrigo Mendes were each able to cap off their first minutes in a Patriots uniform with goals of their own.

WHAT COACH JONES IS SAYING

On Saturday night's win: "A lot of firsts, a lot of first action for a lot of guys. That was very, very important for us as well to continue the evaluation process after our preseason and continuing into the season."

On what he needs to see this week in practice: "The ability to control the game in and out of possession, how to rebound when things aren't going our way. There is some learning and growing that we need to do, and we will hopefully see that this week."

On what he expects from DBU: "It's going to be highly competitive. We know how competitive the LSC is and we will get a glance into our future really quickly but at the same time it is a win-win for us. We are going to play some guys and see how they respond and either way it's going to help us. Either way we are going to get better."

DBU SO FAR

So far into the year, DBU has battled to an 0-0-3 record in their first three contests. DBU has taken 47 total shots on the season and are averaging 15.7 shots per game. 19 of those 47 shots have gone on goal, for a 40.4% clip. Peyton Voelker and Mason Wallack have one goal each.

Jess Jobe remains in charge of the Patriots as he heads into his second season. In 2021, he led DBU to a five win season, which was their most since 2017. Jobe previously served as an assistant coach for the DBU women's team.

PLENTY OF CLOSE BATTLES

UT Tyler and DBU have battled it out eight times in their histories, and UT Tyler has the upper hand at 5-3. The last three contests have been decided by a combined three goals, as UT Tyler has come away with a 3-2 victory and a pair of 1-0 victories. Both teams have scored exactly 13 goals over those eight matches, and UT Tyler is 3-1 on their home field and 2-2 at DBU.

The big story has been the stakes of these matches between the two programs. Since the Patriots inception into a full LSC schedule in the spring of 2021, both teams have battled in the late season conference slate to determine postseason berths.

In the spring 2021 season, it was a golden goal from Sergio Sola with just 55 seconds left in the first overtime period that punched their ticket into their first LSC tournament.

In the fall of 2021, both teams squared off in a contest that would yet again see the winner into the LSC tournament. It was yet another golden goal for UT Tyler, as this time Thierry Assamoi got his head to a cross from Bryan Rivas Guzman to score just 44 seconds into the overtime period.

QUICK ROAD TRIP

The short road trip over to DBU marks the only road contest in the early season for UT Tyler. The next four contests will all be at home as the Patriots play host to Ouachita Baptist (Sep. 8), Rogers State (Sep. 10), St. Mary's (Sep. 14), and UT Permian Basin (Sep. 17). The Patriots don't take another road trip until heading south to Laredo, Texas on September 21 against Texas A&M International.

THE ROAD AHEAD

The Patriots will get a few days off before returning to action against Ouachita Baptist on September 8th at 6 p.m. That game will take place within the friendly confines of Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex and will also double as Dean of Students Night.
