A FIVE MATCH WINNING STREAK
The UT Tyler volleyball team will carry a five match winning streak into the opening weekend of Lone Star Conference play this weekend. Three of those wins have come against LSC foes marked as non-conference competition, and none of those victories were as important to the Patriots than the final two wins over Angelo State and then no. 13 ranked West Texas A&M. UT Tyler swept those two traditional LSC powers by 3-0 final scores in consecutive nights to finish the LSC Crossover last weekend with a perfect 3-0 record to move their overall record to 7-4.
WHAT COACH MASHE IS SAYING
On the importance of the three wins at the LSC Crossover... "It was really good for our confidence to know that we are capable of getting out there and playing really well as a team. I think all of the talks that we've had about just trusting and playing with passion and confidence, and how that makes such a difference in our team, are working and we beat some really great teams last weekend."
On the continued improvement of the Patriot defense... "We haven't had a high like that in a really long time like we did against Angelo State as far as total blocks, and I think we saw what a difference it makes to actually get the blocks and get positive touches at the net. It makes a big difference for us defensively to be able to play off of that and then allows us to run our offense with quality touches."
On the outlook of the team for the LSC schedule... "You sort of treat each phase of season a little differently. I think we know that we're going into conference play and that each game matters to us and what we're trying to do for our goals this season. I think it will be interesting going on the road and playing West Texas A&M in back-to-back weekends as well as a Cameron team that is a solid team. So the message is that we have to focus on every single game because this conference is one of the best in the nation."
THE MATCH UP
UT Tyler holds a 3-0 record all-time against Friday night's opposition Cameron. The Patriots have bettered their performance over the Aggies in each meeting, beginning with 3-2 and 3-1 wins in 2019, and a 3-0 sweep last season on the road. The Aggies have shown signs of improvement this season and enter LSC play with a record of 5-7. Arianna Navarette and Paris Patterson have produced the majority of the offense for Cameron in 2022, having averaged 4.20 and 3.38 points per set respectively.Â
West Texas A&M slipped back to no. 17 in this week's AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 following the upset loss to UT Tyler in the final match of the LSC Crossover. The Lady Buffs will welcome two teams who are receiving votes in the latest national poll to their home floor as they are scheduled to take on DBU on Friday night prior to the Saturday rematch with UT Tyler. The Lady Buffs were dominate in their other two matches of the LSC Crossover, sweeping Angelo State and Lubbock Christian and enter the weekend with an identical 7-4 record. Â
