Box Score DALLAS, TEXAS – Two goals from
Sergio Sola and one goal each from
Lukas Paulun,
Nolan Giles, and
Craig Chisholm were more than enough on Saturday night as the Patriots rolled to a 5-1 victory over DBU.
It took UT Tyler 19 minutes to get on the board, but they did so in wonderful fashion as
Zach Panagiotou set up Sola with a beautiful long pass that landed right at his feet. Sola was able to slot that just inside the left post and put the Patriots ahead 1-0.
Just 15 minutes later, freshman sensation
Nolan Giles was able to double the Patriots lead after Thato Mecko picked up a loose ball and delivered a gorgeous pass across the box that landed right in front of Giles.
DBU was undeterred and fought right back with a goal of their own just seven minutes later as Gavyn Rosales took a pass from Leo Carson and placed it just past an outstretched
Mathias Eriksen. The goal came from a quickly taken free kick from just outside the box that caught the Patriots off guard.
At halftime, the Patriots held the lead by a score of 2-1 and had an 11-6 shots advantage. Four of those six shots for DBU came in the first 16 minutes, and the Patriots defense responded with a strong showing for the remainder of the half.
Over the first 15 minutes of the second half, both teams were locked in a defensive battle as just two shots were recorded by the two teams. At the 62
nd minute mark, Sola struck gold again, this time finishing off a pass from
Ralph Mangondoza after the Patriots flipped the field with a counter attack.
Eight minutes later,
Lukas Paulun found his way onto the stat sheet after coming up with a loose ball that was misplayed by the DBU keeper and scoring on the empty net.
Craig Chisholm put the final exclamation point on the evening, scoring a beautiful goal from just outside the left side of the box that found its way just under the crossbar.
The Patriots defense was able to put the clamps down in the second half, allowing just two shots in the final 45 minutes. On the day, the Patriots outshot DBU 16-8.
Giles and Paulun each scored their third goals of the season, and Sola and Chisholm each scored their first goals of the year.
