Patriots Overwhelm McPherson College With Seven First Half Goals

The UT Tyler women's soccer team scored seven unanswered goals in the first half to beat McPherson College by an eventual 7-0 final tally

TYLER, TEXAS.- The University of Texas at Tyler women's soccer team scored seven first half goals against an overmatched McPherson College side to win by a 7-0 final tally on Monday afternoon.
 
The Patriots are now 3-0 for the first time in the Division II era, and have opened up a season with three straight victories for the first time since the 2018 season. All seven goals came from a different goal scorer in the opening half, a half in which was completely dominated by UT Tyler with a 25-to-0 shot count.
 
Seniors Jordan Colbert and Edina Cakic scored within the first 15 minutes of the contest to make it 2-0, followed by a goal from Samaris Alvarado just a minute or so after the Cakic goal to make it 3-0. Alvarado's goal was the third of the season for the senior, while Colbert now has a pair of goals in the first three outings for the Patriots thus far
 
Freshman Natalie Jones took on the Bulldog back line and scored an unassisted effort in the 25th minute to make it 4-0, followed quickly by a Faith Adje scored to make it five unanswered for UT Tyler. Junior Annabel Westbrook and sophomore Reagan Easter closed out the scoring in the 30th minute and the 41st minute to bring the halftime score to 7-0.
 
UT Tyler didn't allow a single shot attempt for the Bulldogs in the opening 45 minutes of play, and largely called off the offensive attack in the second half, notching just 11 shot attempts as a unit.
 
Sophomore Vanessa Bart had two assists and Jones added an assist to her goal to highlight seven assists for the Patriots.
 
UT Tyler has outscored their competition 13-to-2 in the first three matches of 2022, and stands as one of eight remaining unbeaten squads in the Lone Star Conference, and one of four teams in the league to open the year with a 3-0 record.
 
The Patriots will take on Ouachita Baptist on Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. for their fourth straight home match to begin 2022.
