WHAT COACH MASHE IS SAYING

On the two matches last week against DBU and Western New Mexico... "We started off really good against DBU. I thought we played really aggressively and confidently. They made some really good adjustments off of what we were doing and then the adjustments that we made based on that, and really put some pressure on us on the serving line. We did a good job of responding on Saturday against Western New Mexico on Saturday coming off a tough loss. I thought we played with steady energy, our effort and execution was there, and I was really happy with how we performed Saturday consistently for three sets."

On the importance of the upcoming two week stretch... "After saying all the good things we did on Saturday, we immediately went to how it's time to focus on the next couple of weeks on the road, in some high pressure situations. We're going to be playing some good teams. This weekend Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville are very, very good teams, in the top of the conference last year, and I think we're going to have to play very consistently to beat them. I keep telling our team that if we have everybody show up, we're a really great team, so that's really got to be the focus this week. Whichever six we call on we have to have them all show up and be ready to go."

LAST TIME OUT

UT Tyler couldn't find a way to ride the momentum of a fast start to fall 3-1 (19-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-18) at the hands of (RV) DBU on Wednesday night inside the Herrington Patriot Center. The Patriots opened play with an 11-3 run in the opening frame in route to a 25-19 first set victory, but couldn't overcome a strong serving night from DBU to fall for just the second time in Lone Star Conference play. Freshman Shaye Koski notched a double-double with a team high 12 kills to go along with 11 digs. Setter Adeline Ortman joined Koski with double-double figures with 20 assists and 14 digs. DBU put forth 16 aces in the match to slow down the Patriot momentum following the first set of play and managed to rattle off three straight set victories on the heels of the strong night at the service line. UT Tyler posted a better hitting percentage on the night with 41 kills on 133 swings for a .173 mark, but managed to eclipse double-digit kill figures in just one of the final three sets of action. UT Tyler posted their second highest hitting percentage of the year and limited the opposition to their lowest point total this season in a 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-17) sweep of Western New Mexico. The Patriots hit .297 as a team, their highest hitting percentage since the opening weekend of the season, and limited Western New Mexico to just 25.0 points to cruise in all three set victories. Sophomore Jackie Velzis led the Patriots with 10 kills on just 21 swings on the afternoon. UT Tyler built 10-plus point leads in each of the first two sets and never relinquished control of the match at any point to move to 10-7 on the year and 4-2 in Lone Star Conference play.
