DUNCAN, OKLA. – UT Tyler men's golf claimed their fourth team title of the Division II era on Tuesday afternoon as champions of The Hrncair.
The Patriots claimed a one-stroke victory despite a final round 308 on Tuesday at The Territory Golf Club after a historic Monday that featured the lowest team and individual scores in program history. UT Tyler finished the event two-under par as a team with an 862 (283-271-308) total.
UT Tyler secured head-to-head victories over seven different Lone Star Conference foes, including a pair of nationally-ranked opponents in #2 Oklahoma Christian and #25 West Texas A&M.
The win is the fourth of the Division II era and the first of the 2023-24 season. The Patriots now have top-five finishes in two out of their first three events to open up the year.
Three individuals claimed top-10 finishes for UT Tyler, including junior
Seth Campbell, who notched a tie for third with a five-under par 211 (73-64-74). Campbell carded the lowest round in relation to par in program history in Monday's second round with a 64.
Junior
Carson Wray and sophomore
Luke Emerson joined Campbell in the top-10 with rounds of 75 and 78, respectively, on Tuesday. Wray placed in a tie for eighth place at one-under 215 (70-70-75), while Emerson completed his first tournament of the year at even-par 216 (67-71-78) and in a tie for 10
th.
Juniors
Jackson Naeger and
Gage Burnham each carded rounds of 81 on Tuesday to round out the team scoring for the Patriots. Naeger finished in a tie for 18
th place at 221 (73-67-81) and Burnham in a tie for 28
th place at 225 (74-70-81).
Seniors
Alex Kopenhaver (229) and
Carter Lewis (243) competed as individual competitors for UT Tyler and finished in a tie for 42
nd and a tie for 72
nd.
UT Tyler will return to the course on Oct. 23-24 at the DBU Men's Classic for the final tournament of the fall semester.
