DALLAS, TEXAS – DBU scored three second-half goals in a 10-minute span to collect a 4-2 win over UT Tyler on Saturday evening in Dallas.
Senior
Luis Mahecha and sophomore
Rodrigo Mendes scored for UT Tyler, but the three quick goals for DBU in the late stages of the second half proved too much to overcome for UT Tyler. UT Tyler was able to outshoot DBU by a 16-to-11 final tally, but DBU put four of their five shots on target in the back of the net.
DBU scored in the 30
th minute to take the lead following a slow start for both sides to take a 1-0 advantage, but Mahecha's third goal in his last four outings quickly tied it up at 1-1 in the 37
th minute. Mahecha was at the right place at the right time on the equalizer on a bouncing ball across the box that he put a solid strike on into the top of the net.
The start of the second half was much of the same as neither team truly challenged the opposition for the first 20 minutes of action before DBU rattled off their first of three goals in a 10 minute span in the 71
st minute. The Patriots scored in the 71
st, 73
rd and 82
nd minute to pull ahead 4-1 in the match.
Mendes cut the deficit in half with a goal in the 84
th minute on another score off a cross into the box for UT Tyler, but the hot stretch of play for DBU proved to be too much to overcome.
Graduate student
Lukas Paulun led UT Tyler with four shots.
Thato Meko and
Philip Akem Jr. notched a trio of shots in the contest.
UT Tyler will close out the regular season on Wednesday night in a road contest at Eastern New Mexico.
