LAREDO, TEXAS – Bryan Rivas-Guzman slotted home his first goal of the season and just his second career goal in a Patriots uniform to help RV UT Tyler earn a 1-1 draw on the road against Texas A&M International.
The two teams would battle tightly for the second consecutive contest and their second consecutive 1-1 draw in almost mirror fashion.
Neither team got a lot going in the early minutes of the contest, as they combined for just three shots over the first 32 minutes. Rivas-Guzman was the man to finally put the first shot on goal in the match, as he forced the Dustdevils keeper to make a save in the 33
rd minute.
Just over four minutes later, the Dustdevils found their first shot on net as they forced keeper
Luke Ryan into making his first save of the contest in the 38
th minute.
The two teams would trade shots over the final minutes of the half, with each side picking up one more shot on goal but neither finding the back of the net.
The second 45 minutes began nearly the exact same as the first, as both offenses struggled out of the gates. The Dustdevils finally picked up a shot in the 58
th minute, and Ryan again held his line.
However, Texas A&M International would finally break through in the 66
th minute to go ahead 1-0. After a corner kick was played out of the box by the Patriots defense, the Dustdevils sent in a second chance that was deflected into the air before Saul Fernandez connected on the loose ball to score.
That goal forced the Patriots into pressing on offense, and they did just that by taking a pair of shots over the next 14 minutes. Finally, it was offensive pressure in the 80
th minute that forced a big miscue by Texas A&M International.
A turnover deep in their own territory found the feet of
Thato Meko, and he delivered a pass over to
Rodrigo Mendes who forced his way into the box. After a dribble move to make the first man miss, he was taken down from behind and rightfully earned the penalty kick for UT Tyler. Rivas-Guzman was the man to step to the spot, and he calmly deposited the shot into the right side of the net to tie the game.
The two teams would each take their share of shots over the final 10 minutes, but neither side would be able to put them on net and force the respective keeper to make a save.
RV UT Tyler outshot the Dustdevils 13-12 ono the night and 5-4 in shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Luke Ryan made a trio of saves on 12 total shots faced.
Bryan Rivas-Guzman picked up the lone Patriots goal on the night as
Lukas Paulun led the team with four shots.
Raul Carrillo and Rivas-Guzman each had two shots each.
Next up for RV UT Tyler will be a return back to Citizens 1
st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex for a Saturday evening contest against St. Edward's. That game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
