SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – Junior
Tatum Goff pitched a complete game shutout in game one to lead #2 UT Tyler to a 7-0 victory and then nearly helped complete the comeback in game two to split the day with (RV) Angelo State in San Angelo, Texas.
Goff struckout seven and scattered three hits in the game one victory to move to 9-0 in the circle on the year behind an offense that scored seven runs off of nine hits. UT Tyler then turned around and nearly completed the comeback in a 3-2 game two loss after trailing 3-1 heading into their final two trips to the plate.
The Patriot offense gave Goff room to work in the first ballgame of the afternoon, striking for five runs in their first trip to the plate in the top of the first. Junior

JT Smith on a fielding error by the Rambelles for the first run of the game after Smith and sophomore
Cassidi Mullen drew a pair of walks to start the game.
Smith came around to score on a botched play by the Rambelles to make it 1-0, followed by a sac fly to centerfield by Caitlin Wells that scored Mullen from third after senior
Avery Farr was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Sophomore
Sam Schott singled through the right side in the ensuing at-bat to score Plocheck and Farr on the next at bat, before a sac bunt from junior
Audrey Escamilla plated Farr and registered the fourth run of the inning for the Patriots.
Junior
Amanda Marek capped off the fast start to the game at the plate for UT Tyler with an RBI single that made it 5-0. Goff went to work and retired the first six batters she faced in order, and then stranded a pair of baserunners in the bottom of the third to keep the 5-0 advantage in place.
Wells singled up the middle with two outs in the top of the fourth for her second RBI of the game that scored Smith to make it 6-0. Smith then hit a solo homer in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 7-0, and gave way to Goff's six straight outs to close the book on the Patriot's 11
th win in a row.
Smith went 2-for-3 with an RBI on the homer and three runs scored while eight different Patriots recorded a hit in the ballgame.
UT Tyler got started early in game two as well with a run in the top of the first on another fielding mistake by the Rambelles that allowed Smith to score for the fourth time on the day on a throwing error by the first baseman. A two-out triple in the bottom of the second for Angelo State tied the game at 1-1.
That score held through the fifth inning before the Rambelles took their first lead of the day on a leadoff solo homer that made it 2-1. Another extra-base hit later in the frame made it 3-1, and provided what ended up being a key insurance run for Angelo State.
UT Tyler starter
Kaylee Davis went 5.1 innings and suffered her first loss of 2023 after conceding three earned runs off seven hits. Davis was otherwise solid in the circle, striking out nine batters throughout the ball game.
Farr cut the lead in half with a solo homer in the top of the sixth to begin what nearly ended up being a comeback for the Patriots. UT Tyler stranded a pair of runners in that frame, and then loaded the bases in the seventh down by a run before the Rambelles were able to retire the final out of the game and secure the 3-2 victory.
Farr had all three hits for the Patriots in game two including the solo homer, while Smith and Wells both drew a pair of walks.
The Patriots completed the day with a 14-2 overall record and a 7-1 record in Lone Star Conference play following the split.
UT Tyler and Angelo State will battle it out tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. for the series victory in a single game.
