#30/RV Patriots Head Out for Critical Road Series

The Patriots head west for 558 miles as they battle it out with Eastern New Mexico on the road for the first time in series history.

WHAT A WEEKEND
 
UT Tyler Baseball enjoyed their best weekend of the season this past week, sweeping #25 West Texas A&M at Irwin Field in dominant fashion. The Patriots swept Saturday's doubleheader by scores of 3-2 and 12-2, before keeping the bats hot with an 8-4 win on Sunday. The series finished on Monday afternoon, and it was three late runs in the bottom of the eighth inning that produced a dramatic comeback win to secure the sweep.
 
That win secures the second series sweep for the Patriots of the season, and also marks the first time West Texas A&M has been swept since 2016.
 
LSC IMPLICATIONS
 
With the sweep over West Texas A&M, the Patriots vaulted themselves up into third place in the Lone Star Conference standings, trailing only Angelo State and St. Edward's. The Patriots have 21 LSC wins this season, tied with the Hilltoppers and only behind the Rams. The Patriots hold the third longest active winning streak in the conference, trailing only St. Edward's and Angelo State.
 
NATIONAL ATTENTION
 
For the first time this season, UT Tyler baseball has cracked the top 30 in the Collegiate Baseball Division II Poll, and are back in the Receiving Votes category of the NCBWA National Poll for the third time this season.
 
The Patriots are joined in the Collegiate Baseball poll by South Central Region foes #3 Angelo State, #6 St. Edward's, #21 Colorado Mesa, and RV MSU Denver. In the NCBWA National Poll, the Patriots are joined by #3 Angelo State, #9 St. Edward's, and #16 Colorado Mesa.
 
SERIES HISTORY
 
The Patriots and Greyhounds have battled it out on 11 occasions in their respective program histories, and the Patriots hold the 7-4 advantage all-time. All 11 of those games have come in Tyler, Texas, marking this weekend's series as the first one to take place in Portales, New Mexico.
 
The all-time series began with UT Tyler taking the first six games in a row, before the Greyhounds answered with four straight wins of their own. The Patriots won the most recent iteration coming back on March 13, 2022, winning by a score of 13-0.
 
THE SCOUTING REPORT
 
Eastern New Mexico heads into this weekend's series with a 12-15 record in LSC competition and a 14-15 overall record. The Greyhounds just split their four game series with UT Permian Basin on the road, but have won three total series this season, including taking two of three from St. Edward's.
 
Eastern New Mexico also boasts one of the best home records among all LSC competitors. The Greyhounds are 8-3, and only trail the Patriots and Rams for best home winning percentage in the conference.
 
The Greyhounds have the seventh best offense in the LSC in batting average at .302, and are ninth in the LSC in team ERA at 7.03. Their offense is led by Demetrio Archuleta, who is hitting .385 over 28 games this year. He has 37 hits, 12 of which have gone for extra bases, and 15 RBI.
 
On the mound, it is Noah De La Riva who leads the way with an ERA of 5.06. He has started six games this season and has a record of 2-0 in those games. He has thrown 32 innings while allowing 18 earned runs and striking out 21 hitters while walking seven.
 
Coaching the Greyounds is Riley Price, who is in the midst of his fourth season at the helm. Price led the team to their most LSC wins in program history during the 2022 sason. Previous to his time at Eastern New Mexico, Price served as the head assistant at Minot State.
 
NEXT UP
 
Following this weekend's clash with Eastern New Mexico, the Patriots will return home to the friendly confines of Irwin Field for a four games series with Cameron. That series begins on Thursday, April 6 and will conclude on Saturday, April 8th in an earlier week due to the Easter holiday.
