LAST TIME OUT

The Patriots last weekend earned a 3-1 series win over Texas A&M International in Laredo, Texas. The Patriots got their offense going in a big way in game one on their way to a huge 18-0 win. Their offensive explosion continued on doubleheader Saturday, as they came away with two more wins and 16 combined runs. The series concluded on Sunday with 12 more runs from UT Tyler, but the Dustdevils came away with the win thanks to a late push.

REGIONAL AND NATIONAL ATTENTION

For UT Tyler, they still hang tight in both the NCBWA South Central Region poll and the NCBWA Top 25 poll. The Patriots are fifth in that regional poll, sliding just one spot backward in this week's edition as Colorado Mesa jumped ahead. In the NCBWA Top 25, UT Tyler remains in the Receiving Votes category for the second straight week.

THE LSC RACE

As we are now just over a third of the way through the Lone Star Conference schedule and nearing the halfway mark, the Patriots sit in a tie for third place with Lubbock Christian and are only behind St. Edward's and Angelo State. The next few weeks will be extremely critical for UT Tyler, as the Javelinas are just two games behind, St. Edward's sits just out in front, and West Texas A&M is only a half game behind.

THE SCOUTING REPORT

Texas A&M-Kingsville comes to town this weekend for just the second time ever as the Javelinas previously played a three game set against the Patriots in Tyler back on April 1-3 in 2021. Most recently, the Patriots went to Kingsville, Texas during the 2022 regular season,  and then went right back for the first round of the LSC tournament. In that postseason round, the Patriots took two of three games on the way to advancing to the LSC tournament second weekend for the first time in school history.

The Javelinas are 12-10 overall on the season so far and 11-9 in conference play. They took three of four games from West Texas A&M, Eastern New Mexico, and Cameron for their three series wins thus far.
Leading the way on offense for the Javelinas is Nick Wolff. Wolff is batting .398 on the year and has five doubles, a triple, and seven home runs. He has drawn 11 walks and has struck out 20 times over the 22 games he has played so far. For the pitching staff, Luis Martinez leads the way as he has posted a 2.70 ERA and a 3-0 record over his nine appearances so far. He has thrown 23.1 innings and has allowed just seven runs while walking nine and striking out 33 hitters.

Jason Gonzalez leads the way for the program and has been the head coach since the 2009 season. He has led the program to 12 appearances in the LSC tournament and has led the team to five NCAA South Central Regional appearances and the one and only appearance in the NCAA Division II College World Series back in 2018.

NEXT UP

Following this weekend's competition against the Javelinas, the intensity gets turned up to another level as they hit the road for Austin, Texas to face off with #19 St. Edward's in a four game series. That series kicks off on March 17 at 1 p.m.
