ON A ROLL

The Patriots have now won 11 of their last 12 games after yet another series sweep of Cameron. In the series, the Patriots raced out to a 10-6 win in game one, and then followed it up with wins of 19-0 and 8-3 in the doubleheader on Sunday. The series wrapped up on Monday, and the Patriots offense caught fire with a 20-0 run-rule win to secure their third series sweep at Irwin Field this season.

NON-CONFERENCE BATTLES

Wednesday's matchup marks the first non-conference matchup for the Patriots since April 20, 2021. In that matchup, the Patriots also took on the Muleriders in a 3 p.m. game in Magnolia, and the Patriots took a 20-17 win on the day. That season the Patriots went an even 2-2, with splits against both Southern Arkansas and Arkansas-Monticello.

This week's matchup will be the first of two non-conference matchups with the Muleriders this season, as Southern Arkansas will travel to Tyler, Texas on April 25 for a 4 p.m. contest.

SERIES HISTORY

The Patriots and Muleriders are 1-1 against each other all time, with both matchups back in 2021. In the Patriots win, Ethan Bedgood, Edward Ortiz, and Hayden Clearman totaled eight hits and six RBI. In the game hosted in Tyler, Texas, the Patriots fell 5-4 as the Muleriders jumped out to the early lead and held on throughout the game.

REGIONAL AND NATIONAL ATTENTION

The Patriots come into the matchup at #28 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Top 30 as they now have been ranked three consecutive weeks. The Patriots have moved up one spot in each of the last three weeks as they continue their climb.

In the NCBWA South Central Region Rankings, the Patriots are now number five after sliding just one spot in this week's edition. Angelo State, St. Edward's, Colorado Mesa, and MSU Denver occupy each of the four spots in front of UT Tyler.

THE SCOUTING REPORT

The Muleriders come into the midweek matchup at 27-10 overall and 19-5 in GAC play. They are winners of their last three games as they swept Arkansas Tech over the weekend in Russellville, Arkansas. The Muleriders have played two opponents associated with the national poll, and are 2-0 in those contests.

#10 Southern Arkansas is led at the plate by Riley Orr, who is hitting .400 with 39 runs scored, 14 RBI, 25 walks, and a perfect record of 11-11 in stolen base attempts.

On the mound, it is the combination of Mikel Howell and Jeremy Adorno who lead the charge. Howell has an ERA of 3.44 and Adorno has an ERA of 3.53.

Justin Pettigrew is head coach of the Muleriders and is in the midst of his sixth season. Most recently he led the program to an appearance in the NCAA Division II World Series as the Muleriders claimed the NCAA Central Region title.

NEXT UP

Following this week's non-conference matchup, the Patriots will get right back on the bus and head to Odessa, Texas where they will take on UT Permian Basin in a four game series. That will be a big matchup for the Patriots as they look to continue to hold on to the third spot in the LSC standings with just three weekend's remaining in the regular season.
