Patriots Sweep Action Against UAFS

Both Patriots tennis programs looked strong on Saturday afternoon on their way to two 7-0 sweeps.

FORT SMITH, ARKANSAS – UT Tyler tennis jumped all over UAFS on Saturday on their way to picking up yet another Lone Star Conference win as the Patriots men are now 5-0 in LSC play and the Patriots women are now 4-1.

The Patriots women jumped out to a quick lead thanks to a dominant display in doubles. Allison Schwartz and Akshaya Suresh delivered a big 6-2 win in doubles #1 while Brooklyn Ross and Violetta Khisamova collected a 6-1 win of their own to secure the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.

In singles, the Patriots would continue their onslaught, as Schwartz ran away in a 6-2, 6-0 straight sets win to move the lead to 2-0. Just behind her was Khisamova, who also claimed a straight sets win with scores of 6-1, 7-6 to move the Patriots to match point.

That final point would not come as quickly, as both Ross and Saravanan dropped their first sets to give UAFS the early advantage in both the #1 and #2 slots. However, both players would bounce back in dominant fashion, as Ross collected the next two sets by scores of 6-2, 6-2 to win her match, and Saravanan played her next two sets to scores of 6-1, 6-1 to ensure the Patriots win.

Those two matches moved the score to 5-0, and Suresh would make it 6-0 after a straight sets win of 6-3, 6-3 in the #5 slot.

The final win of the day came in the #6 slot, as Kanika Sivaraman would take her victory by forfeit as UAFS was unable to field a competitor.

The Patriots move to 4-1 in LSC play and 10-6 overall while winning their last two matches.

On the men's side of the match, they would look just as dominant on their way to their own 7-0 sweep of UAFS.

That sweep started in doubles, as all three matches were won by scores of 6-3. Gonzalo Fernandez Gil and Egor Shestakov paired up in slot #1, Joaquin Bianchi and Carel Wessel combined in slot #2, and Jordi Garcia Portell and Jonas Dixon won in slot #3.

After a dominant performance in doubles, the Patriots turned their attention to singles and looked to close the match out quickly. Bianchi would start the action with a straight sets win by scores of 7-6 and 6-0 to move the Patriots ahead 2-0.

Quickly following Bianchi was both Fernandez Gil and Shestakov as they both collected straight sets wins to ensure the victory for the Patriots. Fernandez Gil won his match by scores of 6-4, 6-3, and Shestakov earned a 6-4, 6-2 win.

With the match result under wraps, the Patriots would finish off the remaining matches in a flourish, beginning with Wessel in the #4 slot. Wessel scored a 6-1 set win to lead the match, but UAFS responded with a 7-6 win. Wessel would calm the seas with a tiebreaker win and another point for the Patriots.

The final two matches of the day would take under 45 minutes each, as Garcia Portell in the #5 slot delivered a 6-4, 6-4 straight sets win and then Yudai Watanabe would come through with a 6-4, 6-1 win to ensure a 7-0 sweep.

The Patriots are now 5-0 in LSC play and are winners of their last 13 matches in a row.

Both program's winning streaks will be put on the line on Monday afternoon as they each head to Lawton, Oklahoma to take on Cameron.
