TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler baseball claimed their fourth consecutive Lone Star Conference contest and eighth in their last nine LSC games by a score of 10-2.
Dylan Blomquist got the ball to start the game for the Patriots and looked completely in command of his entire arsenal as he quickly posted a pair of strikeouts on his way to a 1-2-3 inning. He would turn it over to the Patriots offense, and they wasted no time in striking first.
After
Jordan Gochenour reached on an error,
Kaston Mason connected on a big double over the right fielder that allowed Gochenour to score all the way from first.
Ethan Bedgood then drove in Mason with an RBI single to post a quick 2-0 lead after one inning.
Another 1-2-3 inning ensued for Blomquist in the second, and the Patriots offense took complete control in the bottom half of the inning.
Hayden Clearman and
Edward Ortiz each reached base on a pair of singles, and Gochenour brought everyone home with a three run opposite field blast to take a 5-0 lead. The next batter up was again Mason, and he hit a mammoth home run to right field to make it 6-0.
UAFS would finally crack the code ever so slightly on Blomquist in the third, as a leadoff double followed by a home run would cut into the lead. Despite the damage, Blomquist got the next three hitters in order to end the inning.
That Blomquist dominance continued over the next two innings as he faced the minimum in both the fourth and fifth innings. The Patriots would add in a pair of runs in the fourth as Mason drew an RBI walk and
Austin Ochoa posted an RBI sacrifice fly that scored Ortiz.
Despite a pair of singles in the top of the sixth, Blomquist continued dealing as he forced three groundouts around those singles to end the inning. In the seventh, he would face the minimum after a pair of flyouts and a groundout.
The Patriots would tack on two more runs in the seventh as
Nathan Carriere doubled home Ochoa and then came around to score on an
Adrian Minjares RBI sacrifice fly.
Blomquist posted yet another scoreless eighth inning as he worked around both a double and a single to not allow any runs. He would turn the ball over to
Hayden Collins for the ninth inning and Collins would get the first pair of outs with a popout and a groundout before issuing a walk. He rebounded from his first baserunner by forcing a popout to second base to wrap up the game and give the Patriots the win.
Dylan Blomquist earned his fifth win of the year after going eight full innings and spreading out seven hits and allowing just two earned runs. He struck out three batters and issued no walks in the dominant display.
Three Patriots hitters had at least two hits in the contest as Gochenour, Mason, and
Hayden Clearman combined for eight total between the three of them. Both Gochenour and Mason had three RBI each while also hitting a home run.
The Patriots will now set their eyes on Saturday's doubleheader that will also double as Senior Day for the program as they honor 13 seniors who will be finishing their careers this season. Game one of the doubleheader begins at 3 p.m. with game two beginning approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
