#3 UT Tyler Clinches Third Straight Regular Season Championship With Run-Rule Victories Over Texas A&M International

UT Tyler won game no. 50 on the year and no. 27 in a row on Friday afternoon to claim a third Lone Star Conference Regular Season Championship

TYLER, TEXAS - #3 UT Tyler clinched a third straight Lone Star Conference Regular Season Championship with 10-0 and 9-1 run-rule victories over Texas A&M International on Friday afternoon.

The Patriots extended a Division II best 27 game win streak and clinched their third regular season title in as many complete seasons competing in the Lone Star Conference. Junior Tatum Goff no-hit Texas A&M International in game one for her second no-hitter of the season and improved to a perfect 32-0 on the year in the circle.

UT Tyler will host next weekend's 2023 Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament at Irwin Ballpark as the no. 1 seed.

Goff struckout six batters and allowed just a single walk to allow an offense that totaled 10 runs on 12 hits to secure the first run-rule of the afternoon. Junior Michelle Arias hit a three-run homer and an RBI triple in her first two at-bats to finish the game 2-for-3 with four total RBI.

Five different Patriots notched multi-hit efforts, including Arias, Cassidi Mullen and Courtney Plocheck in the heart of the UT Tyler line-up. The Arias three-run homer in the bottom the first and the RBI triple in the second gave UT Tyler a quick 5-0 lead after two complete innings of play.

Plocheck doubled off the right field wall in the fourth to put the first of three runs in the frame on the board. Senior Avery Farr and junior Audrey Escamilla both followed up that double with RBI singles to run the advantage to 8-0.

Sophomore Maddie Melton drove in pinch runner Angelique Rangel on a fielder's choice in the fourth, as well as Escamilla on an ensuing fielding error by the Dustdevils to extend the lead to it's eventual 10-0 final.

Mullen scored three times on a 2-for-3 effort at the plate, while Plocheck added a pair of runs and an RBI on her 2-for-3 day as well. Sophomore JT Smith broke the UT Tyler softball season record for stolen bases with two in the ball game to run her total to 40 on the year.

Smith leadoff game two with the first of two homers in the game for the Patriots. That solo shot started a two-run first inning that ended with an Escamilla sac fly to left that scored Mullen.

Mullen went a perfect 3-for-3 in the game while Escamilla totaled three RBI. Mullen and Plocheck leadoff the third inning with back-to-back singles and Arias drew a walk to quickly load the bases for UT Tyler.

Escamilla singled to right and scored Mullen and Plocheck to make 5-0 in the ensuing at bat. A wild pitch scored pinch-runner Rangel and a sac fly from senior Amanda Marek finished off the five-run inning.

Game two starter Shea O'Leary scattered five hits and struckout six to move to 14-2 on the year with a complete game effort. Farr rounded out the scoring for the Patriots with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth before Texas A&M International was able to produce their lone run of the game on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth to bring the score to it's 9-1 final.

Win no. 27 in a row moved UT Tyler's record to 50-4, matching the 2016 team for the most wins in a single season in program history.

UT Tyler will look to close out the regular season undefeated on their home field in tomorrow afternoon's regular season finale scheduled for a 12 p.m. first pitch.
