WHAT COACH MASHE IS SAYING
On her team's efforts at last weekend's Colorado Premier Challenge... "We played some incredible competition, teams in the top 25 that belong there. We really battled. I was super proud of our team and the way that they competed against Wayne State to start off the weekend. We saw some really great things in the way we played. Our offense, the way we passed the ball well, just some things we were really needing to see. We fought back down 0-2 against Central Missouri and just didn't have enough steam in the fifth. Then to come back and finish off the weekend with a win against Western Washington, a top 25 team, I was proud of our team."
On the message this week to her team after seeing what they learned last weekend... "I think the message is still that we're looking for consistency from all of the players when they get their opportunity. When we have all six playing together and working together at a high level, we are a very good team and I think that they saw that and know that. It's just about showing it every single time we step out onto the court. So we're working through those things this week with a tough weekend ahead."
On this weekend's LSC Crossover event... "We have to build upon the bright spots from last weekend and I think our team has to learn how to win together at a more consistent basis. I think we have alot of depth and people that can contribute and help us have a good weekend, we just have to show up with what we talk alot about as a team, a "swag" about ourselves that we are a good team and we know that. I think that's what it's going to take, is for our team to believe in ourselves and what we can do."
LAST TIME OUT
(RV) UT Tyler suffered a pair of 3-0 losses to #3 Wayne State and #19 Regis on day one of the Colorado Premier Challenge last Friday. The Patriots couldn't find an answer to a Wayne State offense in the first match of the day that committed just four attacking errors in 101 swings and then failed to find their rhythm offensively in the evening match against #19 Regis. JuniorÂ
Sophie Connor notched a season-high 12 kills in the Wayne State match andÂ
Addison Evans totaled 16 digs to highlight the Patriot output in the 3-0 (23-25, 17-25, 20-25) defeat. UT Tyler out-killed the no. 3 nationally-ranked Wildcats by a 46-to-38 margin, but couldn't overcome 21 attacking errors in comparison to just four from Wayne State. Strong finishes in both Saturday matches at the Colorado Premier Challenge culminated in a 3-1 (24-26, 25-17, 25-23, 28-26) victory for (RV) UT Tyler over Western Washington. The Patriots finished the weekend with a 1-3 record after a 3-2 loss in the morning match against (RV) Central Missouri. UT Tyler responded with losses in the first two sets with victories in sets three and four to face a fifth and deciding set. That quality finish to a match was put on display in the evening match against Western Washington as well, as the Patriots dropped the opening set 26-24 and then won three straight frames to cap off the weekend with a win. UT Tyler woke up offensively in the first match against (RV) Central Missouri, posting 16 kills in the third and fourth frames to force a deciding fifth set. Central Missouri dominated the opening two frames to jump ahead 2-0 in the match, but couldn't find an answer to the UT Tyler offense in the ensuing two sets to head to set no. five. The Patriots finished strong in their evening win over Western Washington as well to leave Denver, Colo. with a positive taste in their mouth. UT Tyler committed 12 errors in the opening set to fall 26-24 before rattling off 25-17, 25-23 and 28-26 wins to claim the victory. UT Tyler totaled 60 kills and limited Western Washington to just 43 on the afternoon. JuniorÂ
Adeline Ortman recorded a second double-double of the season with 28 assists and 15 digs.
