Patriots Battle Tigers to 0-0 Draw

UT Tyler had the offensive advantage for all 90 minutes, but Ouachita Baptist played staunch defense at the perfect times to preserve the draw.

ARKADELPHIA, ARKANSAS – UT Tyler held a wide advantage in nearly every offensive category on Thursday afternoon, but could not find the back of the net on the way to a 0-0 draw against Ouachita Baptist.

The Patriots outshot the Tigers 20-7 overall in the contest, including a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal and a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Despite the offensive advantage, a slow defensive battle was the hallmark of the game in the early goings, as both teams mustered just one shot each through the first 22 minutes.

The first shot on goal for the Tigers came at the 24:18 mark of the first half as Eli Stuart drove a low bouncing ball that Patriots keeper Diego Berlingeri handled comfortably.

The Patriots got the wheels turning on offense with right around 13 minutes left in the first half, as some offensive pressure kept the ball deep in the Tigers zone. Philip Akem Jr. took the first shot on goal for the Patriots, and the Tigers keeper made a tough stop to keep the game scoreless.

The next big chance came with just six minutes left in the first half, as another big offensive run down the right side of the field made way for the Patriots. A long cross found Johnathan Sosa, and he delivered a big strike that just found the crossbar and stayed out.

Just over a minute later, Sosa made another big run down the left side and lifted yet another shot off the crossbar as the Patriots stayed scoreless.

The first half closed at 0-0, but the Patriots outshot the Tigers 4-1 over the final seven minutes as the offense clicked into the right gear.

The second half saw the Patriots continue the offensive pressure, as they posted three shots over the first 15 minutes with one of those going on goal and another being blocked.

Four more shots went up over the next 12 minutes, and the Patriots kept up the offensive pressure and rarely allowed the ball into their defensive third.

The premiere play of the second half came with just over 12 and a half minutes left. The Patriots again had big pressure on the Tigers back line, and the ball bounced around in the box before Lukas Paulun found his footing and delivered a laser that was stopped by the Tigers keeper diving to his right.

That chance would end up as one of the best of the game for UT Tyler. Kari Eydal put up three shots of his own in the final 10 minutes, but one was saved and two others were blocked as the Patriots pressure continued.

One final shot on goal came from Raul Carrillo with just under two minutes remaining, but the Patriots again couldn't break the seal.

Salomão Saboia put up a team high five shots in the contest with a pair of those going on goal. Six other Patriots in the contest attempted at least two shots.

UT Tyler will look to get back to their winning ways on Saturday afternoon as they head to Searcy, Arkansas for a meeting with Harding. That game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
