MUSKOGEE, OKLA. – The University of Texas at Tyler men's golf team wrapped up their first event of 2023-24 in fifth place following a 296 in Tuesday's final round.
The Patriots finished with an 866 (285-285-296) total at the 25
th Annual NSU Golf Classic to record a top-five finish in their inaugural event of the season. Tuesday's final round was plagued by weather delays, leading the final group that featured the Patriots to finish in near darkness.
Junior
Carson Wray finished in fifth place individually with rounds of 70-66-75 for a 211 total. That total placed Wray two-under par for the tournament in an impressive UT Tyler debut at Muskogee Golf Club.
Northeastern State collected the victory in their home event after a 281 on Tuesday moved the Riverhawks up a spot on the team leaderboard. UT Tyler secured a head-to-head win over Lone Star Conference foe UAFS with their fifth-place finish.

Carter Lewis led UT Tyler in the final round with rounds of 73. Naeger placed a spot behind Wray on the individual leaderboard in a tie for sixth place with a 212 (68-71-73) total.

Gage Burnham wrapped up his first event as a Patriot with a tie for 33
rd place finish after rounds of 73-72-75 for a 220 total. Senior
Alex Kopenhaver place in a tie for 57
th place with rounds of 74-76-75 and Lewis in a tie for 74
th after his rounds of 77-80-73.
UT Tyler finished 11 strokes shy of a top-three finish after a long day of golf at Muskogee Golf Club.
The Patriots will return to action on Oct. 2-3 at the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational in Amarillo, Texas at Amarillo Country Club.
