WHAT COACH MASHE IS SAYING
On her team's performance at the LSC Crossover... "We did not have our best showing against DBU in the first match. I felt like we just didn't do all the little things well to beat a solid team like DBU. I thought our team did a good job of responding after that loss and coming out with some good energy and did what it took to get a four-set win against Texas A&M International. West Texas A&M is a great team. We put in a lot of really aggressive swings that they were able to dig up and convert on, but at the end of the day we're still making alot of mistakes and not executing. Even though we competed well against them, you have to execute to be a great team like that."
On the positives the team saw throughout the non-conference schedule... "We've definitely been challenged and we've got to figure out how to respond better. You hope at the end of the day that the schedule we have played will help us as we play such a tough schedule in the Lone Star Conference. We hope that we eventually start clicking and learn how to win as a team. When you have such a young team with alot of new pieces, that's the biggest thing, you have to learn is how to win together. We've done it at times throughout the non-conference schedule which is a positive, but we have to learn how to do it more consistently."
On the outlook for this weekend's Lone Star Conference openers... "We're looking forward to being at home. It will be nice to start a more regular schedule where you're getting home games in front of your home crowd. Conference play starts so it's time to get things together and learn how to consistently win. Two touch matches this weekend, we've already seen West Texas A&M so we know what we're getting there on Saturday. Haven't seen Cameron yet this year, but there is nobody in this conference that you can step on the floor not ready to go against and expect to win."
LAST TIME OUT
UT Tyler completed non-conference play with a 1-2 weekend in Canyon, Texas at the Lone Star Conference event. UT Tyler fell by a 3-0 (30-32, 20-25, 16-25) final to DBU in the first match of the Lone Star Conference Crossover on Thursday afternoon. A marathon 32-30 first set gave way to decisive second and third sets in favor of DBU to move UT Tyler to 5-4 on the season. Freshman
Shaye Koski led UT Tyler with 13 kills in the match. UT Tyler responded with three-straight set victories to defeat Texas A&M International (19-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-20) on Friday aftermoon. The Patriots picked up their first win of the weekend in the top LSC Crossover across the league thanks to 12 kills from a trio of Patriots in
Brielle Worley,
Shaye Koski and
Jackie Velzis. Koski reached double-double figures alongside setter
Adeline Ortman to round out the complete team performance on the afternoon. Koski, Ortman and libero
Addison Evans were key pieces to a strong defensive output for the Patriots that kicked it in gear after an opening set 25-19 loss to rattle off three straight victories. Koski paired her 12 kills with 15 digs, Ortman went for 23 assists and 11 digs, and Evans a team-high 23 digs. That defense limited Texas A&M International to 10 or less kills in the final three sets of the match and allowed a Patriot offense that hit .194 in the match to find it's footing. UT Tyler went for kill totals of 16, 14 and 17 to compliment the defensive side of the net. The Patriots wrapped up play on Saturday with a 3-0 loss at the hands of West Texas A&M on their home floor.
