TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler controlled 63 percent of the possession in the contest and out-short Eastern New Mexico by a 25-to-7 final tally in a 1-1 tie on Saturday afternoon.
The Patriots picked up their first result of the 2023 Lone Star Conference schedule against the Greyhounds in what was largely a one-sided match. Sophomore
Brooke Mullins' third goal of the year in the 51
st minute evened the match up at it's eventual 1-1 final.
Eastern New Mexico netted their lone goal of the match just over four minutes into the contest on a defensive miscue by the Patriots and held the advantage into the halftime break despite 11 first-half shots for UT Tyler.
Sophomore
Melissa Oliveira nearly put across the equalizer on a shot that rattled off the post in the 34
th minute on the best chance for the Patriots of the half.
Mullins finally evened the match up on the 15
th shot of the match for the Patriots off of a cross from senior
Sydnee Garner. Mullins redirected the well-placed cross from the near corner flag by Garner in for the equalizer.
UT Tyler put four more shots on target in the final 30-plus minutes of action, including a pair from sophomore
Launa Torrez. Torrez and Mullins each notched four shot attempts on an afternoon in which eight different Patriots recorded two or more efforts.
The 25 shots in the contest are a season-high for the Patriots and the highest shot total for the program in the last two seasons of conference play.
Garner was credited with her first assist of the season on the Mullins goal.
UT Tyler moves to 2-2-3 on the year and 0-1-1 in Lone Star Conference play with the result.
The Patriots will stay on their home pitch for a Wednesday night match against #9 DBU at 7 p.m.
