Frantic Start Leads to 1-1 Draw for UT Tyler at Rogers State

Both teams netted their lone goal of the contest in the first five minutes of the contest to a highlight a largely even battle in Claremore on Thursday night

CLAREMORE, OKLA. – A frantic start with goals from each team in the first five minutes of action gave way to a balanced 1-1 draw between UT Tyler and Rogers State on Thursday evening.

The Patriots earned the result on the first of five straight non-conference road games thanks to a rock-solid defensive effort. UT Tyler maintained their unbeaten streak in their last seven non-conference outings with the 1-1 draw against the Hillcats.

Senior Alexia Moreira redirected a Melissa Oliveira shot 59 seconds into the contest to quickly put UT Tyler on the board 1-0. Oliveira created space after collecting a throw-in from sophomore Natalie Jones and delivered a shot into the box that redirected off Moreira and into the back of the net.

The goal from Moreira is the first of her career, while the assist the second of the year for Oliveira.

The lead was short lived, however, as Rogers State found the back of the net on their first shot attempt of the night as well off the foot of Vanessa Gonzales in the fourth minute.

That 1-1 tie held for the next 85 minutes of game action as neither team truly threatened the opposition on the backs of two quality defensive efforts. Both teams registered five shot on goals attempts for the contest, while UT Tyler held the advantage with 10 total shots.

Oliveira and sophomore Brooke Mullins each registered a pair of shot attempts to lead the team. Keepers Daniella Wilken and Emily Clark each made two saves with Clark logging 37 minutes and Wilken 53 minutes.

UT Tyler will stay on the road for a Saturday afternoon meeting at East Central at 1 p.m.
