WHAT COACH KENNY JONES IS SAYING

On what the team takes from the tough weekend: "I said in the last time we did this that we belong, and we got to see it. I think we're a good team with a lot of pieces and new guys. I'm really excited what the potential has for us and will continue to train and play games and to see where we look like we're headed is very encouraging."

On the defensive slip-ups: "I think all of those things are fixable. It's hard to figure out what you need to change this early, but one thing you do is play great teams early and that's exactly what we needed. We are already working on those things and will be ready for this weekend."

On the offensive depth at the top of the formation: "I think we're going to be deep. Like a lot of teams, we are going through some injuries but because of our depth it doesn't seem like it. We're very fortunate because not every team across the country has that and we're very confident in the guys we have."

PATRIOT NOTES AND TRENDS

  • For just the second time since 2014, the Patriots have failed to win one of their first two games. In 2020, the Patriots battled their way through their final year of Division II transition to a 4-5-1 record overall and a 4-3-1 record in LSC play. In 2015, the Patriots dropped their first two games before going 10-1-3 over the remainder of the year and earning the ASC Regular Season Championship.
  • The tie against #2 CSU Pueblo moves their record at Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex to 12-4-2 dating back to 2021. If you move that back to 2019 as the Patriots began their transition to Division II, that record becomes 18-9-5.
  •   Five different Patriots have recorded a point thus far. Three different players have scored a goal, and three different players have recorded an assist.
  • Saturday's contest against Jarvis Christian will be the first time the two teams have ever met.

AROUND THE LSC

Four teams have reached the two win mark so far in the season, with only Lubbock Christian and Midwestern State remaining unblemished with 2-0-1 records. DBU and St. Mary's each sit at 2-1.

Cian Foley of St. Mary's earned the first week's LSC Offensive Player of the Week while Ellis Jones (Oklahoma Christian) and Adam Braman (Midwestern State) earned Defensive and Goalkeeper of the Week respectively.

JARVIS CHRISTIAN AT A GLANCE

  • The Bulldogs are off to a 2-0 start, their best in program history. Those wins include a 7-3 victory over Texas Wesleyan and a 2-1 win over Wayland Baptist.
  • This will be the first road game for the Bulldogs this season. Last season they went 1-3-2 on the road while in the 2021 season they finished at 1-7-2 on the road.
  • The team has accounted for nine total goals this season, with Johan Arevalo and Kevin Ochoa each leading the way with two goals each. Avrov Vladimir leads in goal with five saves so far this season.
