AUSTIN, TEXAS – UT Tyler hit .304 as a team and moved to 6-0 in Lone Star Conference play with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 27-25) win over St. Edward's on Saturday afternoon.
The Patriots won convincing 25-17 and 25-18 first and second sets and then solidified the three-set sweep with a 27-25 third set victory. UT Tyler hit a season-high .304 in the match, posting 57 kills while limiting St. Edward's to just 28 in the match.
Junior
Kota Hartman continued to play at an extremely high level on the offensive side of the net for UT Tyler, totaling a team-high 15 kills, while classmate
Jackie Velzis notched 13 kills and a .429 hitting percentage for the match.
The Patriots totaled 19 and 20 kills in the first two frames, hitting .484 and .333 as a team in each set. UT Tyler seized control at the 15-10 mark in the first and led by as many as nine before closing out the 25-17 win.
Set two was much of the same as the Patriots limited St. Edward's to just eight kills in the frame and slowly took control of the set behind a rock-solid defense. UT Tyler led 16-11 after a back-and-forth opening portion of the frame and then closed out the 25-18 win on a 6-2 run.
St. Edward's hung onto the advantage for the majority of the third and final set after a 5-1 start to the frame, but a key 5-1 run for the Patriots that featured a pair of kills each for Hartman and Velzis gave UT Tyler their first sizeable lead at the 18-15 mark. The Hilltoppers clawed their way back into the set with a string of four straight points to tie it up at 23-23, but UT Tyler ultimately closed out the sweep with back-to-back points after the two teams alternated the next four points.
That 27-25 victory featured 18 kills for the Patriots.

Addison Evans led UT Tyler with 14 digs, while fellow defensive specialist
Emma Vazquez added 11 digs to the effort.

Middle blocker
Dakota Rogers-Hurtado joined Hartman and Velzis in double-digit kill totals with 10 on just 14 swings for a .643 hitting percentage.
UT Tyler accomplished exactly what they set out to do in this weekend's road trip, staying unbeaten in LSC play to set-up what will be a massive weekend at home. The Patriots will take on Eastern New Mexico on Friday night before a showdown between UT Tyler and #9 West Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon.
